The Three Types Of Solar Space Heating

1362 Words6 Pages

For space heating major three functions performed in any solar space heating: one of them is collection of solar energy, the other is storage and third one is the distribution of that energy from storage. There are mainly two basic types of solar systems for space heating. One is active and other is passive; perform these three functions, but in different ways. Some mechanical devices help active solar air heater to circulate air or fluid through collectors and into thermal storage units such as water tanks or rock beds. To bring stored heat where it is required we use additional pumps and fans. Active systems can be relay on external sources of energy to operate and quite complex.
Passive solar heating systems, on the other hand, require …show more content…

Three types are flat-plate collectors, passive collector, focusing collector. All forms of energy derived from sun. More conventional forms of energy fossil fuel received solar radiation as input and posses energy in greatly concentrated form. These highly concentrated solar energy sources being used as rapid rate that they will depleted in not-too distant future.

1.3 MERITS OF SOLAR ENERGY:

Following are the advantages of solar energy over other sources of energy.
a. All the electricity we produce is free, after initial investment.
b. Incentives and rebates from utility companies and governments offset the initial investment.
c. Net metering gives you the opportunity of getting a credit from the utility company and selling your excess electricity.
d. Electric bill be reduced by using this system.
e. Costs of solar panels are less while efficiency is very high.
f. Numerous solar solutions are being developed that are easier to install and less obtrusive.
g. It is renewable, very clean energy source.
h. There is no transmission costs, our energy are produced where it is …show more content…

Small leakage of air can be neglected.
r. Freezing of working fluid does not exist.
s. The pressure of air inside the cylinder does not go very high.
1.4 DEMERITS:
Disadvantages of solar energy are following.
• Initial cost of the equipment is high as compare to the use of other fossil fuel technologies.
• This system requires a large area and sometimes it is quite difficult to find such a large space especially in the inner cities.
• The performance of the photovoltaic cell is reduced because of the pollution and sometimes the effect of the solar radiation decrease because of the clouds. So in this type of time there is so much retardation in the output of the solar air heater.
• When there is no sun means at night or because of the cloudy atmosphere, there is no use of this expansive system.
• In most of the solar air heaters solar panels are used. So in the performance of this kind of system, the location of solar panel has also a very important roll.
• Poor heat transfer properties of the air is also the major disadvantage of this kind of system.
• Sometimes it is very hard to handle large volume of air due to low density of the air.
• If there is no proper design of solar air heater, the cost of its very
