Time is one of the dimensions of the physical universe in which we live. It has been considered as a commodity with economic worth. It is handled much like a material, we earn it, spend it and save it. It is a fixed sum resource and therefore valuable in its own right. Time is constant in the life of all human beings. Its use by human beings is a major variable. Time is the arena or the stage on which the drama of human development unfolds in our society. Each person has his own life span and timing may be a partial determinant of its length. Each has his distinctive time use pattern – efficient or inefficient, productive or slothful, tension releasing or tension ridden. It is a subject relevant to everyone, but more so to managers of organizations. Managers are the external faces of business with suppliers of resources and other business partners. They are required to develop good networks and business relationships that will serve the long-term objectives of the organization. All these roles can put tremendous demands on managers' time, which if not managed effectively, could become a source of tension in their work life. In all of these, we have ignored the demands on manager's time in respect of their life outside work. Balancing responsibilities relating to work and home life can be very challenging and indeed vital for personal effectiveness. Focusing on self without others can create counter-productive outcomes in the long run.
