2.1 Understanding time management
According to Ghebre (2012), Time is one of the most non-renewable resources in everyone’s lives and it will always be their enemy no matter how hard they work or strive to achieve. Therefore, it is imperative to master the skill of time management to take full advantage on the limited amount of time available. The term ‘time management’ can be defined as “a set of principles, practices, skills, tools, and systems working together to help one get more value out of one’s time with the aim of improving the quality of life” (Timethoughts.com, 2004). It is the process of organizing and planning how much time you spend on specific activities. The exercising of time management can increase productivity, efficiency

Hard work is doing things in the least effective manner. For example, while planning is time consuming initially, more time can be saved with better results by investing in that time. Working smarter and not harder allows people to get more work done in less time.
2.3 The importance of time management
In the fast-paced world we live in today, more and more people seem to lack the ability to find the time to do the things that they want and need to do. This makes time-management so important, especially in today’s age where the saying “time is money” applies rather fittingly. Time management is possibly the most important skill a person can learn in order to be successful. There are countless benefits to being able to manage time effectively. To accentuate these benefits even further, here are some of the reasons why time management is so important for every individual to be successful:
• Time is limited
As mentioned at the beginning, time is a very precious, non-renewable resource that cannot be stored or saved. Everyone is limited to 24 hours a day, therefore it is important to make the most of time to be more than average at the workplace, university or anywhere else for that matter.
• Accomplish more work with less
In “The Protestant Work Ethic: Just Another ‘Urban Legend?’” Jonathan Klemens, the author, states what work ethic is and how it applies in American society. Klemens explained that the work ethic of workers in a company or some type of organization has helped the nation as a whole. That people work hard to achieve “the company or organization’s missions” (122). Not only that, Klemens also explained that people would work hard to gain particular professions they desire instead of just working with no goals.
Skills that I have contributing business IT skills This IT skill that I have means I can work on the computers much more easily and effectively. It will save a lot of time. Marble Champ Have you ever worked hard at something you're not necessarily good at? Well in the story “Marble Champ,” by Gary Soto the main character Lupe shows us the theme of hard work pays off in the end. “Hard work will pay off later. Laziness pays off now. ’’ -Unknown
If you constantly focus your own time and energy into doing something, multiple things will come from that situation, giving you opportunity to accomplish more. Ultimately all these opportunities come from working hard and refusing to be inactive. Former President and also a founding father of our country, Thomas Jefferson once said, "Determine never to be idle... It is wonderful how much may be done if we are always doing."
Hard work is essential, ultimately, helping us to
Time is the one only truly irreplaceable commodity at our disposal, and we need to use the present time, in preparing for the future. She said that faculty, staff and the administration have the responsibility of letting students develop their gifts as well as students have that responsibility of using their seconds and time well to prepare for the future. Two important student responsibilities she mentioned were: Understanding that the time spent
Kristi Hedges is, self-purportedly, “good at managing [her] time” (para. 1). Considering her background espoused in Time Management for the Time Challenged as an “author, leadership coach” (para. 18), and successful guide to clients in need of time managing techniques (para. 3) the aforementioned assertion may be well founded. Unfortunately the rigours of life, “work, travel, and family”, overtook her, and inspired her to provide the wealth of experience at her fingertips for the general public (para. 4). In Time Management Kristi provides readers with three time management implementation strategies.
Allocating time for your personal agenda is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It is proven that creating time for yourself will increase your happiness. This will help you function better throughout the day, and will enable a student to do things he/she pleases to do, example read a book. Better time management will allow a student to join clubs or activities of their choosing, and not just join the ones which improve marks. Studies have shown that students with more time on their hands will join a club of their choosing rather than the ones that so the most benefit with the least amount of effort.
By constantly being active a person can accomplish many tasks and possibly goals. Being industrious and productive leads to performing well in life. Life has a time limit and therefore one should not waste it by being idle or unproductive. Time is a constant, but personal productivity is not. One of Jefferson’s virtues describes being industrious in which he further explains that no time should be lost, a person should be well employed, and all unnecessary actions should be cut off.
Isaac Rodgers 24-Jun-15 The Importance of Being on Time and Organized For Appointments Time management is important because it shows that you care making the appointments on time. When making an appointment that is one thing that you should be aware of and an appointment is considered to be your place of duty when scheduled. The seven army values can be applied when it comes to appointments. Starting with loyalty you are saying that you are going to make it to your place of duty in return making you loyal.
I learned in this activity how crucial time management skills will be to my ability to complete this course successfully. The analysis from the questionnaire (Table 2) as well as keeping a record of what activities I focus on for a couple of days, opened my eyes to a few areas of improvement. From the patterns observed I could see that most of my time was taken up by work and commitments as well as procrastination. Not being able to juggle theses successful led to irritation and was unproductive. Research suggests that managing ones emotions, being self-aware and self-motivate can be factors for success for a student (Allan, 2009).
Hannah Arendt born in Germany, worked as a U.S. political writer and philosopher. Her works were mostly related to political philosophy. In one of her work, “The Human Condition” Arendt suggests a three-way partition between the human activities as labor, work, and action. The activities have been arranged in hierarchal importance. Labor corresponds to that activity which are undertaken for fulfillment of biological necessities of human existence.
Time management is important to have because it helps get work done more efficiently and is a way to manage your priorities. Priorities along with making commitments are also learned from participating in a extra activity. Students learn how to prioritize their work when in activities while also finding a balance of everything else going on in their life; commitment is also learned but showing that a student needs to be 100% involved to put in their best effort to whatever they choose to do and to be be successful doing it. “Various research studies have lined participation in student activities to higher math and english grades, improved grades and homework completion, better performance on math, reading and science test, and an increased likelihood of applying to college” (Annemarie Mannion).
It involves setting goals and managing your time. Developing my motivation and concentration skills will help me to overcome the lure of procrastination. Effective self-management will help me to avoid stress and provide me with more opportunities to get times to finish my
What I mean by specific is that it is time-specific and nature-specific. In addition, I have always heard of the term SMART but I did not give it my attention because I thought it would be just like many other useless methods of time management. However, the way this lecture illustrated this term or method is very unique and has helped me in implementing this method in my daily life. For instance, a goal should be time-based, for years I used to set goals or tasks and never put a deadline or timeframe, so I keep procrastinating until I lose track of time and eventually finishing the task in as imperfect way or not finishing it at all.
