Soni Sori intimidated allegedly by cops to scuttle her Tiranga yatra.

The tribal activist and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Soni Sori was allegedly intimidated today by unidentified men near Jagdalpur district court. Sori, who is undertaking a Tiranga yatra in the Maoist-affected areas of Bastar, was on her way to attend the court proceedings.

According to her, cops in plain clothes came in three vehicles without number plates and overtook her car. The assailants managed to stop Sori's car in the middle of the road and came out hurling abuses at her. Adivasi journalist and Soni Sori's close aide Linga Kodopi was driving her vehicle. Three mysterious vehicles, however, chased her, continuously honking and abusing Linga Kodopi before entering the Kodenar police station. Sori eventually managed to reach the court after some time but the magistrate reprimanded her reaching late.

Sori says the police wanted to make her miss the hearing so that the magistrate would issue an arrest warrant against her. But, she was saved as many other people were travelling her on the occasion. Sori has,nevertheless, expressed fears that she and Linga Kodopi might be attacked again.

Soni Sori is on a 7-day long Tiranga Yatra these days. The foot march started on August 9 from the Maoist-affected Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. She shuttles between the yatra and the court every day.

The yatra will cover 180 kilometres in areas considered as Maoist hotbed and end at the Gompad village in Sukma with the unfurling of the tricolour on August 15. Gompad is the same village where a tribal woman-Madkam Hidme was allegedly sexually assaulted and killed in a fake encounter last month.
