The three main characters that show courage are Atticus, Mrs. Dubose, and Jem Finch. All the characters show courage, just in different ways. First, Atticus shows courage by defending a black, and no one in the town agrees with his decision. “I’m simply defending a Negro- his name id Tom Robinson…there’s been some high talk around town to the effect that I shouldn’t do much about defending this man.”(100). Throughout the book, To kill a Mockingbird, the author displays and defines courage in many different forms. Atticus Finch, a lawyer and a major protagonist of the book, defines courage to be “when you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see through it no matter what”(Lee 149). His words suggest that true courage can come from anything, but once it is begun, that idea or object should never be given up on until the end. Atticus Finch shows courage through his will to see through his case and open a path to let litigation prevail. Scout and Jem Finch show courage through perseverance and the will to never falter.

An example of courage would be when Scout rolled thru a tire to the Radley 's place. As realized she was in the Radley yard ,Jem was screaming at her to get out of there. As she said in the novel she heard someone inside the Radley house laughing. Jem accused her of turning into a girl because she forgot the tire. Scout didn 't tell Jem nor Dill the laughing sound created in the Radley 's Place And as the readers know that was the reason why Scout decide not to play the Boo Radley
Courage means the ability to do something that frightens one. Everyone has had a tough time in thier live when they needed to have courage. Scout and Jem are in the middle of a rough time in To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee where they live in Maycomb with their father, Atticus. Maycomb is a place that suffers from a lot of prejudice and racism. Jem changed throughout the story as he learned that it’s important to have courage especially when it gets hard.

Atticus displayed courage by putting his life on the line and killing the rabies infected dog as well as standing up for Tim Robinson when no one else would. Like Atticus, Jem displayed a great amount of courage when he touched the Radley house and by defending Scout against Mr. Ewell. Harper Lee uses many scenes and key characters to develop the theme of real courage for instance, Jem, Atticus, and Miss Maudie go through a journey to discover, understand and to show that real courage is mental courage in the face of physical and emotional torment. Particularly, Harper Lee uses Jem Atticus Finch to show that courage means pushing through even though you know have already lost. In Chapter 11, Jem and Scout had many encounters with Mrs. Dubose.

Moral courage means doing the right thing despite the risk of any consequences. Anyone can have moral courage, no matter who you are. Many authors often use different literary elements to develop themes in their writings. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee uses the literary elements mood and imagery to teach her audience about doing the right thing or moral courage.
In the past of our history, this world used to be divided by the races in which humans never really consider themselves as totally equal and fair between all races. Such as the story of Killing the Mockingbird, the Town of Maycomb where lives our main character Scout Finch her family, has been divided by races and people with same race should do the same things or go to the same place. The people were not united and treated each race differently, especially Caucasian’s discriminations towards the African-Americans. We have to stop all these injustices, unfairness, and discriminations between races and treat everyone in this world equally and fairly. After all, we are all from the planet earth and we are all humans.
