Have you ever thought of what courage means? Well, courage means the strength in the face of pain and relief. Courage takes place in this book because of all the circumstances and characters during the novel. Physical courage is shown in this book, when Atticus was standing in the middle of the street, facing a rabid dog armed with a shotgun. This is an impressive action to the children, so now Atticus has to show different types of courage to show that he is strong.

For example, on of the characters words in the book that show courage is, "'First of all,' he said, 'If you can learn a simple trick, Scout, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. He is meaning to give a simple suggestion in how he can do a simple trick, and he'll get along with other people. Another quote that was said by one of the characters was "As Atticus once advised me to do, I tried to climb into Jem's skin and walk around in it: if I had gone alone to the Radley Place at two in the morning, my funeral would have been held the next afternoon. So I left Jem alone and tried not to bother him." He was trying to mean that how Jem was sad, he left him alone so no one could bother him and he could be alone. In most times, people need advice from others because that's how they know there errors and they can fix them or how they can fix their problems just by giving a simple advice and they can do the things better by that advice.
In the events part of this novel, Scout and Jem found items in the knot hole of the radley's tree. This event shows courage because of how they find the items and don't keep them instead they give them to the owner. His words suggest that true courage can come from anything, but once it is begun, that idea or object should never be given up on until the end.
