That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." A Alabama tomboy writing a world famous book was totally unexpected. Harper Lee never initially thought she would be a author or a worldwide author. Her book To Kill a Mockingbird and its sequel Go Set a Watchman became famous and is now a book that is a must read for many young adults. Writing her books became a inspiration for many people aspiring to be writers themselves especially since what she did was unexpected. Sadly, Lee struggled during this period of time since her job, a ticket agent for Eastern Airlines and for the British Overseas Air Corp, didn’t pay well. After getting help from her friends she quit her job and started working on a novel. While she was writing her first novel, she helped her friend, Truman Capote, who was also in the midst of writing a article. She relayed her notes of the cold blooded murder in Kansas to Capote for his article telling of these murders. However, as soon as she was done with helping Truman, she immediately became engrossed in writing her novel (Harper Lee {Biography.com}). After 6 months her first book ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ was published, but that was not the only thing she wrote. Even though ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ was the first published book of the short series, it was not the only thing written. In fact ‘Go Set a Watchman’ was actually written first but deemed “more like a series of anecdotes than a fully conceived novel” so it was rejected by her publisher (The Invisible Hand Behind Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ {New York Times}). Instead Lee sent the draft for To Kill a Mockingbird and, though it needed some elements changed, it was published. To Kill a Mockingbird became famous. That day was the date of death for a famous and well loved author. Nelle Harper Lee had been struggling with health issues since 2007 and finally she went off peacefully in her sleep due to having a disease called Sleep Apnea at the age of 89. She is buried in her hometown in Alabama (Harper Lee {Biography.com}). Even though Harper Lee is no longer apart of this world that does not mean that she had no impact on anybody’s life or even still does. What this amazing author did was inspire many people to become writers and work towards their goals always. Even though she is dead, thousand of people continue to read her marvelous works of literature. Copies of her works are still sold in almost every store everywhere and it has sold 40 million copies a year since its publication.
