“Photoshopping is usually an app for girls that aren't confident with the way that they look” (mostly girls not men) (Mclean.). This means that the majority of teen girls use it because they are not happy with the way they look.” 15% of 2,000 18-24 year old girls think that celebs and models are what they really look like”(Lanniello). Further explanation girls shouldn't believe that every girl they see on the internet is what the really look like. 9 in 10 people in the world would like to see all different types of body varieties (shapes) (Lanniello). This means that not everyone wants to see just skinny thin girls all time.
She shows this through women not being allowed to take part of the jury, people being judged on their social class or their different lifestyle but the most prominent is racism since the jury convicts Tom for a crime he didn't commit just because he was black. A powerful quote said by Atticus to Jem was the following: “[s]o far nothing in your life has interfered with your reasoning process.” (295). I think this shows that anyone was once innocent as a child, but as one becomes older and aware of the evil, they get influenced to do evil as well. However, they are still good people. Scout and her brother start at the beginning of the novel innocent.
When the phrase Jim Crow is uttered, many people feel a rush of inept thoughts and bad memories due to the social taboo against talking of the lowest point in America’s history. Jim Crow was not just a set of laws aimed to oppress the lives of all black people, but a movement by the citizens, black or white, that caused a corrupt mindset in all men and women. Many people tried to stop the social force from continuing in individual spurts of courage, but they were not able to stop Jim Crow as individuals. An individual’s own personal courage cannot fight against Jim Crow, because a single person would not be able to stop an entire movement embedded into the minds of millions of people, not to mention how the social pressure against it was too strong to even fathom fighting against it. One main reason why it was unable for Jim Crow to be fought by a single person is because there was no feasible way in which one person, no matter how powerful, rich, or socially accepted, could have changed the entirety of
Social media and social life is a cause that makes young girls feel different about themselves and wanting to change the way they look. In today’s generation, there is a lot of young teen girls that are very self-cautious about their body. Stuff like this only happens because they see girls who eat so much but never gain the weight, they can fit in anything they find at the mall, boys/men prefer them more than thicker woman, etc. This pressures females to stop eating, instead of them to stop eating what they can do is eat and ignore the fact that they’ll gain weight. Eating is just a way of life and it’s something that keeps us alive.
Because the jury did not favor black men, Tom Robinson did not receive a fair trial, although Atticus made a great case. Segregation directly disobeys the fourteenth amendment, “No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States.” Maycomb Alabama is where the story, To Kill a Mockingbird takes place. Tom Robinson’s trial out come was not based on factual evidence. Mayella was lying to the jury, while Tom was completely innocent. He could not have done everything that Mayella said he did, due to the fact that he one has one working arm.
White and blacks are not friends because of segregation. Papa is telling Stacey about why blacks are not friends with whites " 'Far as I 'm concerned, friendship between black and whites don 't mean that much ' cause it usually ain 't on a equal basis. Right now you and Jeremy might get along fine, but in a few years he 'll think of himself as a man but you 'll probably still be a boy to him, and if he feels that way, he 'll turn on you in a minute ' " (Taylor 157). This shows that blacks could not be friends with whites. Good friendship is hard to find.
There is a lot of controversy when it comes to the issue in whether or not females have excessive pressure to have the perfect bodies. This issue has led to many concerns. Therefore, some individuals argue that females should just be happy with their own personal image. However, 1 out of every 10 teens tried to end their lives because they were experiencing depression and they just wanted to fit in. There is too much pressure on females to have the ideal body image.
Another criticism of the Instagrammers shape unhealthy image will bring mental health problem to the female users is because the users do not satisfy with their own body shape. However, the media has set women with a thin body and slim body curve are the standard of beauty (Maran 2012). Social media has further developed this idea. Some of the famous Instagrammers are normal people before they go famous on Instagram. They become an Instagrammer because of their ideal body shape.
In the novel it states “cecil jacobs made me forget he had announced in the schoolyard the day before that scout finch's daddy defended niggers i denied it but told jem” (lee, 74) this piece of texts shows labels affect people because labeling could be racist because the white children where labeling tom Robinson as a nigger. In the novel it also states “depends how you look at it he said what was one negro more or less among two hundred of em he wasn't tom to them he was escaping prisoner” (lee, 235) this piece of text shows labels affect people because labeling could be racist because all the townspeople thought tom robinson was guilty because he was black but if he was white he would have not been guilty. In both of these texts it shows that Since tom robinson was black he would never win the trial even tho he did nothing
Have you ever thought that Mayella could really be a victim not just of rape, but in general life and society? If you read thought the book you actually learn a little bit about Mayella and her family’s background. The Ewell family, to the other people in Maycomb are known as white trash in their society. This means that the other people of Maycomb do not give the Ewell family any respect , but are treated like garbage. Knowing this gives information, this saw that no one really cares about Mayella.
All of the makeup, hair products, perfumes, etc., are completely hurting women’s overall body image and self-esteem. Trying to live up to such nearly impossible standards is so taxing on women. Tyler is a six-foot tall, beauty, who has posed for Maxim magazine in just her undergarments, yet she found it important to tell young women not to look up to super models and to embrace their curves. I found this so interesting since she has actually been considered to have supermodel stature and looks, yet often jokes about her ‘freakishly tall stature’ or being an ‘amazon’ or ‘giant’. Her tone is definitely one of a sarcastic feminist.
