Q1.1 Analyze the problem that Tom Mathis and Danaher Sensors and Controls needed to solve in this case? What were the surrounding issues of the problem? 1. The problem that Tom Mathis and Danaher Sensors and Controls needs to solve was find a way to make the processes of this separation even leaner. Although they were already operating at an accepted efficiency level, Mr. Mathis had to come up with more inventive methods to reduce costs and increase efficiency. The surrounding issues of the problem were that the kanban method was manual and many of the kanban cards were getting lost in the process. Buyers and sellers would have to make up for the lost goods as production suffered. Production suffers, and both the buyers and the purchasers …show more content…
The management changed many things in the way the business conducted, as inventory of plant and supply works system are incorporated. However the company had limited resources to make that change of the system practical. The first obstacle Danaher Company was the integrated of the plant’s inventory database with the supply works system. Danaher would reap added value from never having to recreate cards with new supplier or part quantity information some could simply enter the new information in the database and the bar codes would never have to change. The new system reduced non-productive time by 57 percent. Although this number seems more than respectable, some Danaher employees viewed the transition with tepid optimism. There were many technical problems prevented the supply works system from working to its potential. The common problem was the interference of the radio. The problem was getting bigger and bigger by untested software in the handheld devices that Danaher Company pacers used for scanning. Once the pacers lost the connection while uploading data to the inventory database, they did not know what course of action they should take. They usually returned to rescan storage bins, which wastes the time of the whole system. Supply Worked updated the software so that it included connection failure warnings and prompts. The vendors suggested that the software was not losing data but that the workers did need more assistance to guide them through the connection failures. The three other factories now using the e-kanban system have had fewer radio reception problems and will keep using their handhelds. Danaher also founded some problems with supply works mechanism for sending e-mail alerts to suppliers. The system sometimes sent an advance notification of shipment when the shipment had already arrived at Danaher. In this case Danaher Company decided to take control of the alert. However in oter areas,
One of the main issue was the lack of communication and understanding between the key decision makers and IT team. These two parties were very disconnected in

Gemini’s parts have remained about the same from 2008 to 2009 at 49.2 and 48.8, significantly above the industry average of 32.3 days. Though they have decreased by 1 day, it is still much longer than the average. This means Gemini has inventory parts that sit for almost 50 days. This is because Gemini still had to source many of its parts from Asian contractors, resulting large part inventories being maintained due to long delivery times. Their Work in Process has increased by 0.01 from 2008 to 2009 and it remains less than half of the industry average.
Even though, that was a fundamental system in the market which is bar coding of all items sold out throughout stores. Until the bar coding requirement came into action completely, each store shall place bar-coded stickers on items to check purchase registers. However, it was quite costly in conditions of both workers and materials.
