The book “To Kill A Mockingbird” was written by “Harper Lee”. In this book there are families that live in Macomb County with the neighbors within the County making judgements on each family, besides a man named “Atticus Finch”, which he is a lawyer. Atticus had two children, a girl named Scout or Jean Louise Finch, and a boy named Jem or Jeremy Atticus Finch. So there is a trial going on and Atticus was chosen to defend an African American, which everyone is disliking him for, because he is going to actually try to defend him. The man he is defending is named “Tom Robinson” and he is on trial for being accused of rape by Mr.Ewell. So my claim is that Tom Robinson in not guilty given the evidence by both sides First off, Mayella, …show more content…
It was obvious that he knows better to do what he was convicted of doing, and his left arm was useless. Tom said that he has been in trouble with the law before. He had once received thirty days for disorderly conduct because he got in a fight using self defence against a person who was going to cut him, which he did succeed in his left shoulder. Tom is the nicest man in this whole entire book, To Kill a Mockingbird which was written by Harper Lee. Tom wasn’t ever caught up in any lie and wasn’t hesitant to answer the questions he was asked. It seemed that he didn’t have anything to hide, he was a open book. His story didn’t add up to mayella’s story that she told. In his side of the story mayella was trying to seduce him into loving her, which he didn’t. Then he ran for his life because he was scared of what she was trying to do and what her father thought what happened. In Mayella’s story he was the one trying to rape her, and she was thrown to the ground and was pinned to the floor, she also claimed that she was hit in the face by Tom and had bruises all over her. Which in my opinion would be really hard for a guy with one arm, that he could use, could do all of
In To Kill a Mockingbird, a black man named Tom Robinson was accused of raping a white woman. Although Atticus had helped Tom Robinson as his lawyer, Tom Robinson had not received a fair trial, because he had no witnesses to back him up. Since the jury was not impartial, it made the trial even harder on Tom’s part. When explaining the trial to Scout, Atticus tells her, “’ Simply because we were licked a hundred years before we started.
Leading up to the Civil Rights Movement, the black community was in a constant battle against law enforcement treating them unfair compared to the white community. The Scottsboro Boys and Emmett Till’s cases were one of the many times that the legal system showed to be unfair to blacks. In the book To Kill A Mockingbird, the law enforcement and community were very racist against blacks and believed all blacks were criminals. During the Great Depression, people had to do anything to get what they needed. One specific case, called The Scottsboro Boys Trial, follows the case of a group of 9 black boys who encounter trouble when they jump into a moving train car containing food and a group of white people. The white people were hoarding all of the food so they and the black people got into a fight. Dear Members of the Jury, I am writing you this letter to tell to you that Tom Robinson should be proven not guilty. This case would have never happened if the truth would have been told and it wasn’t a case between black and white. There are many ways that Robinson is not guilty. One of these reasons that Tom Robinson is not guilty is that if you listened to the Sheriff 's testimony he stumbled frequently and when he said something and then Atticus would say something different he would agree with Atticus. Tom Robinson is a very polite man with great manners, which you could take into consideration that he wouldn’t dare hurt this woman in this kind of manner.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the story is set in the 1900’s, Maycomb, Alabama. During this time there was racism in the south and segregation which separated the whites and blacks from everything. There was also the Great Depression, the whole country was poor and people living in the country had to trade and do other jobs for people to either pay them off or to buy something from them. The trial in this book is about Mayella and Bob Ewell, two white people, claiming and arguing that Tom Robinson, a black person, raped Mayella Ewell. This trial is really important because at that time in the south, white people took advantage of black people and their kindness and thought they would take that or shut up just because they were black.
Comparing Trials. We have court trials monthly, whether it's minor or major. But, without a witness how will the jury pick a side and decide if the accused is guilty or not guilty? As trails exist in non-fiction they exist in fiction.

One of them is that he is innocent. First, during the court case, Tom is accused of raping Mayella Ewell. She said that he strangled her and punched her in the right eye. Tom would need both of his hands to strangle her and would need to be left handed to punch her right eye. Tom has a limp lift arm so there is no way that he could have done it.
No medical evidence was ever collected or shown to prove that the crime ever took place. On the night after the assault, Mayella Ewell was never seen be a doctor. She was never examined to prove that Tom Robinson did anything to her. Mayella stated that she was beaten that night, so she should have gone to the doctor to get checked out. There is no proof of any crime, so there should not have been a guilty verdict.
