Because when Cole through the first punch and hit the bear and it lunged at Cole and attacked him. Here’s some reasons that I thought that Touching Spirit Bear is fascinating book to read. The reason I thought it was fascinating book because Cole was abused because of his dad and Cole goes to a building for Circle Justice. Therefore he can get
The power of nature is the most influential force in the book because nature teaches Cole about growing up and makes him notice that there are things more powerful than him. For example, in the book after he gets mauled by the bear, he starts to notice what’s around him. The irony in this book is that he never saw what nature was really about, and then when he was ripped apart he couldn’t move and enjoy what he had just discovered. The next theme is Anger, I thought that this was important because the whole story is about a boy who can’t control his anger. Anger isn’t only related to Cole but also his father.
In Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, Cole is a kid who focused on anger and lied a lot. In this part of the book Cole swore not to lie which is a big change. Cole was beaten up by his parents when he was younger and was raised in an environment of anger. He was forced to go to and island in Alaska because he smashed Peter Driscal’s head into the pavement. On the island in Alaska he was mauled by a bear for threatening it.
Also, Johnny was only the one who serves as a vent to his parents’ anger. Days pass and years pass, Johnny was horribly scared of violence. According to the saying of parents are the best teach- ers to children, the violence was just like a seed which was kept in Johnny’s heart and grew gradual- ly day by day. That was all
Sometimes people need a certain experience to change their point of view. In Touching Spirit Bear, written by Ben Mikaelsen, a violent teenager named Cole Matthews is sent on a mission to redeem himself, and faces radical experiences that ultimately change his whole mindset. He commits the crime of beating up a fellow peer, then is banished to an island as a punishment for his actions by the Circle Justice; a committee that serves as an alternative form of justice in the Tlingit culture. He then faces difficult and even deadly challenges. As a result of this experience, he changes from his ungovernable, supercilious ways as he comes to strong and sudden realizations of how wrong he was, and he learns how to be an honest and forgiving human being.

In a world in which survival is nearly impossible, survival has become Eliezer’s dominant goal. He admits that he lives only to feed himself. Eliezer’s relationship with his father is all-important to both of them, because it provides both with support. Though it is crucial to Eliezer to remain with his father at all costs, even the link between parent and child grows tenuous under the stress of the Nazi oppression. When, in this section, Eliezer relates with horror a story about witnessing a thirteen-year-old child who beats his father for making his bed improperly, he seems to feel that the event serves as an implicit cautionary tale.
