Tourism is the number one industry here in the Bahamas and takes priority in a lot of aspects especially when it comes to the environment. Our motto is ‘Sun, Sand and Sea” but without even realizing it with our unsustainable tourism practices we are risking all three of those things because they are being damaged immensely. Money is a major factor when it comes to what is put where and at what cost. If a hotel is expected to create jobs and have a great amount of cash income then there is no thought on the beach it is but right on the shore on, or the mangroves that were torn down to build. There really aren’t many laws when it comes to protecting these areas from development, other than maybe a setback law for beaches and the water line. …show more content…
With all of these hotels being built on the coast it is harmful to the beaches they build on. It can lead to coastal erosion and beach erosion, if the beach has nowhere to push the sand back to and it is them washed away over time that sandy beach will become a rocky shore. This can affect all organisms that lived on that beach well as sea turtles. Sea turtles come to nest and lay their eggs on these beaches and tend to leave behind beaches that have been developed on and if there is no beach to return to that can have a severe impact on them and reproduction. The loss or erosion of a coastal area doesn’t only affect the environment but also tourism because of the loss of aesthetic value. Other than the beaches mangroves could be immensely impacted. When there is development happening on the coast where mangroves may be there would be cut down and the area would be filled if needed. This is the destruction of a very important ecosystems that has so much value to not only the tourism industry but fishing industry but also protection of the coast and have intrinsic value of its own. When destroying these mangroves you affect the sea grass beds and the coral reefs. these mangroves prevent storm surge and erosion and protect biodiversity including commercially important fish. This is all lost when they are not seen for their value and just torn up to
Even though the standards are uniform in all counties and cities, both are permitted to include more restrictive regulations which could depend upon the weather, geological and topographical circumstances. These adoptions must nonetheless be documented and submitted to the commission. As areas and towns differ in conditions of topographical and geological circumstances the Title isn't too restrictive. These problems could be determined by a few factors like the place and its susceptibility to natural disasters such as mudslide, earthquakes or floods. Counties in areas exposed to earthquakes, for instance, restrict development of high rise structures.
The algae washes up on shores and destroy the beautiful of the beaches. This also has a side effect on the economy. A nuclear power plant had to be shut down from the algae problem which has cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars per day.
When too many trees are cut down the temperature of the environment increase and it also increases the acidity I the ocean. Both increased temperature and increased acidity in the ocean contribute to the damage to the coral
The barriers were formed during periods of slow sea-level rise. The findings of this study serve as important information for examining human impact and potential management of barrier islands. This study showed that the creation and reshaping of the barriers are weather depending. Human development along coastlines including hotels and jetties, influence the natural processes that affect the barriers. This leads to server erosion, which in turn causes that damage from storms to be more harmful along the coast.
As a result, organizations are seeking to pass laws that would stop sacred lands from being impacted by corporate or developer
For example, books may mean a lot to someone, but they may not read it anymore. Books may not be valued for many people because after they have been read, they may be done with that book forever. People may not value books also because it’s time consuming to read a full book, most people have just given up
The sheer volume of visitors during tourist season is shocking and this mass of people seem to share a mind like sand pipers, flocking to one place all at once. Beaches, clubs, and even local parks teem with people seeking to escape from the snows of the northern winter. When visiting the beaches, disregarding every posted sign which asks that they please keep the beaches clean and refrain from leaving any litter on the beaches as this interferes local wildlife. Littering is an unintentional mess left behind by a group of vacationers and often times families. The real problem really lies in the lack of respect the younger, more mischievous vacationers have for the area.
As noted earlier, tourism is one of the biggest business in Florida and the US Virgin islands, and with most of its tourist attraction destroyed, it leaves the state and territories still shaky about the future of their economy. Hurricane Irma have not only impacted the economy but more so the residents who are still trying to come to grip being a survivor of this catastrophic
Introduction Finders keepers, losers weepers is a childhood adage that means whatever is found on the school playground can be kept but there is no principle of law that supports an individual is entitled to keep something he finds, while the original owner bears the loss. The premise when something is lost by one individual and found by another has been expressed in various ways over the centuries.
Objects, things and even places become precious as a way to hold on to identity that has been there for quite some
Many people lose their livelihood, for e.g. farmers. These people will need to be compensated, which is usually costly. The cost depends on amount of compensation to be paid to the local people affected by erosion. Land Management Maintenance of sand dunes provide a natural defence against the sea.
In Kurt novel he explains that in his society after all the chaos and destruction of the world everything from art, literature, and accomplishments has zero value. They become completely useless. Just in our society we celebrate new accomplishments and appreciate things that would matter to use if we were in such crisis. Take for example if we were to take a named brand of sunglasses and give them to someone in a underdeveloped society they would deem that thing as completely useless and would much rather ask for food or
Fishermen throwing their garbage into the ocean, which affects the health of the coral and the fish that live in it. Climate change is destroying the living environments of various animals, like the walruses. The WWF1 started their campaign Seastars to fight against the threats of the ocean. Overfishing comes down to one thing: Catching too much fish which leads to a degradation
Losing an item may not seem bad to a grown up because he/she can re-acquire whatever he/she has lost, with money or support. A child may be devastated because he/she would not have much idea of what to do except to cry and go crazy. Similarly, the characters Ophelia and Antigone from “Hamlet” and “Antigone” go
Therefore, the impact of overfishing and illegal collecting of coral may destroyed the social and economic well-being of the coastal communities who depend on fish for their way of life. Beside, it is also direct overexploitation of fish, intertebrates, and algae for food and the aquarium trade, removal of a species or group of species impacting multiple trophic levels, bycatch and mortality of nontarget species, and change from coral to algal dominance due to reduction in herbivores (Reef Resilience Organisation,
