There has been a saying that the most unforgivable moments in life are success in the imperial examination and marriage.
In the traditional Chinese marriages, there are four main stages that families from both sides would do. They are proposal, pre-wedding ritual (which include presenting wedding gifts, selecting a wedding date), wedding day ceremony and wedding night ritual.
The proposal, two families, usually picks a date together as a wedding day; this was known as an official meeting between the parents of the bride and groom. However, before the formal meeting, groom’s parents intend to make a match. They would invite matchmaker to propose with them at the bride’s home. Before allowing the couple to exchange wedding rings, the wedding officiant will ask the wedding guests whether anyone object to the marriage. In a traditional American wedding ceremony, none of the guests will object. The American bride and groom seal their marriage with a kiss. At this point in the wedding ceremony, the wedding guests applaud and congratulate the newly married couple.
