ABSTRACT. In this case study we try to rectify the congestion on a staggered intersection by using traffic management. A traffic signals are the most effective as well as an economical method and flexible active control of traffic and is widely used in many major cities worldwide to improve congestion for further improvement purposes and to make the perfect plan for the road stretch when coming from Chandigarh side towards landran. The increase in traffic volumes at staggered junction intersections is one of the important problems that makes difficulties in the traffic movement then leads to traffic congestion. The objective of the this case study is improvement the traffic operation of the selected intersection Chandigarh –Landran and …show more content…

But beyond that, it makes sense to look at how our current driving behaviour contributes to congestion. New technologies that more evenly distribute traffic and alert drivers of problems down the road are redefining how we manage our highways. At the heart of all this new technology is the ability to adapt to constantly changing highway conditions and respond in the most efficient manner - we are working on making our highways smarter with new techniques and tools. The present paper includes some of the new tools and technologies that are being used or that can be used worldwide to fight against traffic jam. The paper also contains few ways to cut traffic jams out of his life. Traffic congestion is a condition on road networks that occurs as use increases, and is characterized by slower speeds, longer trip times, and increased vehicular queuing. The most common example is the physical use of roads by vehicles. When traffic demand is great enough that the interaction between vehicles slows the speed of the traffic stream, this results in some congestion. As demand approaches the capacity of a road (or of the intersections along the road), …show more content…

By reconstruction of pavements (roads) which are damaged.
2. By introduction of traffic signs and sign boards. Sign boards should be placed on kharar to landran road i.e., sign boards should be placed near chapar -chiri village for the traffic going to Mohali via kharar. It will further reduced the traffic on landran road and hence traffic jamms
3. Bus stop should be moved forward to an extent by which the traffic can continues without a glitch.
4. Designing landran road there are three possible designs of landran road (wider roads, flyovers, bypasses and expressways) which can reduce traffic jams to solve this problem but for developing countries like India, money and space are serious concerns.
5. Second approach is to manage existing traffic with same infrastructure, with the use of technology and by involving commuters in the process know as Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) techniques aim to provide information like current road congestion level, predicting travel time, predicting traffic congestion.
6. Designing of traffic lights
7. Map out and Try some alternative routes, also Plan with your timing. Check traffic reports before you leave and Use a GPS device with live traffic updates during your
