Chapter -1: General Introduction • Traffic monitoring is a process of reviewing, analyzing and managing traffic for any abnormality or process that can affect network performance or security. • It is a process that uses various tools and techniques to study computer based traffic. Traffic monitoring generally requires reviewing each incoming and outgoing packet. Traffic phenomena are complex and nonlinear, depending on the interactions of a large number of vehicles. Due to the individual reactions of human drivers, vehicles do not interact simply following the laws of mechanics, but rather show phenomena of cluster formation and shock wave propagation both forward and backward, depending on vehicle density in a given area.

IOT BASED REAL TIME TRAFIC CONTROL USING CLOUD COMPUTING Abstract—The number of vehicles on the road is increasing rapidly, as a result of which we face many problems. The rapid increase in the number of vehicles has given rise to the traffic jam, which is a major problem these days. The effect of traffic jam also effects the operation of ambulance. The traffic control becomes one of the major areas of research. To avoid the traffic jam for the ambulance, a new idea is developed.
If there are insufficient public transport vehicles like buses and trains, then instead of using the public transportation offered, the people will have the tendency to buy their personal and private mode of transportation. Considering that there is the high fuel costs, people still believe having their own mode of transportation gives them more perks than relying on the public transportation system offered to them since they do not need to be stuck in a transportation that is in poor condition. Another cause of traffic congestions in a lot of places, especially in rural cities that do not have traffic lights are the traffic enforcers. Despite not happening all the time, there are frequent instances where the traffic enforcers, who are supposedly the ones that should be controlling the traffic and making the flow of traffic run smooth, they somehow worsen the situation in the
Scope and Limitations Scope of this study is limited to the calibration of one four legged at grade signalized intersection located in a sub-urban area (not a central business district area) of Karachi. This study includes only the volume calibration, i.e. other traffic parameters are not calibrated. Research Significance By modeling complex intersection and road networks, we can simulate the actual road traffic conditions on a virtual model and also provide a visual representation of any proposed changes on roads. So, instead of making propositions based on statistical data, it enables us to exactly know the effects of any modification, thus determining the effectiveness of that modification.
