Transformational Leadership Theory
As per this theory, a leader is able to transform society though a vision. This they do by infusing a form of energy and enthusiasm into people. They are able to feel the pulse of the people and channelize that pulse into a solid direction. Leaders who can be explained through this theory also show compassion and care for a particular cause (Changing Minds n.d.) which adds to the enthusiasm of the people. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was a visionary. He came with an idea to guide the nation through a challenging phase.

It can perhaps be inferred here that the faith that people had in Vajpayee could not be transferred to Advani i.e., Vajpayee 's leadership style was individual centric and special to some individuals. The NDA perhaps came to power due to Vajpayee 's ability to provide a vision to the country and the promise of trustworthy leadership. Since Advani had a different style of leadership, the party lost the 2004 general elections. It is also often stated that the policies implemented under Atal Bihari Vajpayee did not translate into development for the rural people but only benefitted a select group of population in the middle class of society. Vajpayee 's leadership style is far from dead. If the Modi government pushes for high levels of corporatization and capitalism, it could lead to disenchantment among the bulk of the population which would mean that the people would lose faith in such forms of leadership. This in fact could put transformational type of leadership in the doldrums as people would stop believing in visionary leaders. On the other hand, participative leadership style could get a boost as people would not want to bring back leaders who create a sense of strong
