How to use a sewing machine

With the help of a sewing machine is not as difficult as it seems. The basics of machine sewing are the same regardless of the make or model of machine you use. Practice on some scrap fabric, at first, until you get a feeling and coordination to use your sewing machine. Although there are a lot of details, everything will soon become second nature.

1 Place the machine on a sturdy table, counter, or sewing cabinet in front of you. Sit in a chair that is a comfortable height for the height of the table. Arrange the machine so that the needle tip is on the left and the body of the machine is right. You will check a few things first and get to know the machine a bit, so do not plug it in yet.

Turn the hand wheel on the upper right side of the machine. Generally, you will turn it so that you move up toward you. Turn it one full turn.
-Pass the scissors between the foot and the plate to pull both loops on hook up. You should now have the ends of two threads, one from the needle and one coming up from below.
7 Connect the machine and turn it on. Many sewing machines have a built-in light, which is often a good way to tell if there is power to the machine. The switch will usually be on the right side or back of the machine, if one exists. Some machines do not have a separate switch, in which case they are turned on as soon as they are plugged in
-Connect the pedal of the machine as well. Place the pedal in a comfortable place underfoot.
8 Practice on some scrap material first. Select a simple, woven, not knit one, for your first sewing experience because knits may be elastic and difficult to manage. Cut up an old shirt, sheets or pillow cases if you do not have a piece of scrap fabric sitting.
-Do not use a very heavy fabric for your first attempt at sewing machine. Denim and flannel can be difficult to sew because they are fat when several layers are stacked
