Tribal Education in India – Evaluation and Recommendations
Key Objectives:
Aiming to provide dynamic education to the tribal children in India that will be tailored to suit their own requirements and help overcome their problems and predicaments. The pressing problems like students’ attendance rates, physical location of the village, lack of awareness of education and sustainable livelihood are to be tackled. This is in the intention of bringing out the magnitude of these issues and providing recommendations towards building a quality and brighter education model for the children in the disadvantaged tribal communities in India.

The importance of education and more specifically that which is specific to their communities’ problems has to be reiterated to them for the conservation and preservation of their unique ecosystems.
Requirement of Action:
There is a need for immediate action to be taken in the following areas. The key is to innovate and implement in order to improve the education systems.
Economic Condition – The tribal population are not equipped with the necessary financial help for education and travelling to school due to many reasons like a lack of livelihood, social and class discrimination etc.
Accessibility – Much of the tribal population lives in hilly terrain or in remote locations which prevents them from going to school. Apart from physical barriers, there is also the question of medium of instruction and accessibility to water which discourages the children to cope with their

Each with its unique set up has to be nurtured. To get the students to understand the criticality of learning and education, these solutions will have to be executed. In that sense, the following recommendations aim to cover all the issues faced by tribal education in India.
Employment of different methods of teaching –
Montessori learning equips children with academic skills through creativity and their intrinsic desires to learn. Implementation of the same will help in boosting awareness in education among the students and parents.
STEM education ensures that children focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics in lower levels as well that will improve the quality of education and stimulate innovation in the society.
Community School concepts can be integrated in the system which promotes joyful and inclusive learning. Community participation is encouraged to ensure that problems are solved more effectively as they understand ground realities and can strike change where it’s really needed.
Digitalised learning – Environment-friendly learning methods which broadens the senses and incorporates
Religious stability within the development of individuals was warped during the forced assimilation due to the cult-like idea of Christianity being the superior religion throughout the assimilation era. Michael C. Coleman, author of Indian Children at School, speculates that the propaganda of the Christian religion to force and assimilate the natives into the white man’s religion was the first program to civilize Indian schoolchildren. The “us versus them” effect is defined by the American Psychological Association as the tendency of individuals to view the social world in terms of an in-group (us) and an out-group (them). Consequently, people prefer to associate with others that are similar to themselves rather than others who are different, to allocate resources to others that are similar to themselves, and hold more positive beliefs about those that are similar to themselves. At St. Jerome’s Indian Residential School, Saul see’s the lonely world, which crams on him like a black hole with no light, however creates a determination for him to stay strong. As he is expeditiously thrown in to the vast world of a different religion he quickly realizes, “They called it a school, but it was never that” (79) … “There were no grades or examinations. The only test was our ability to endure” (79). The emotions and perspectives present in each quote signify the feelings of Saul towards the school and define the school to be unnerving and painful for the Indians living there, however they also show that Saul knows his expectations and is strong enough to tolerate the torture.
Indian Boarding schools were created in the 1800s to “Kill the Indian, Save the Man.” They achieved this by transforming the natives looks, culture, language, and teaching them a certain way so they would be able to function in a “european society”. Indian boarding schools taught students both academic and “real world” skills, but they did so while ripping the indians from their culture. Most indian boarding schools were the same with their tactics in transforming the native man into a white one.
Over the past few decades, there has been many distinct perspectives and conflicts surrounding the historical context between the Indigenous peoples in Canada and the Canadian Government. In source one, the author P.J Anderson is trying to convey that the absolute goal of the Indian Residential School system in Canada has been to assimilate the Indian nation and provide them with guidance to “ forget their Indian habits”, and become educated of the “ arts of civilized life”, in order to help them integrate into society and “become one” with their “White brethren”. Expectations often impose an inescapable reality. In the short story “Indian Education” by Sherman Alexie, Victor often struggles with Indian and American expectations during school. Alexie utilizes parallelism in the construction of each vignette, introducing a memoir of tension and concluding with a statement about Victor’s difficulties, to explore the conflict between cultures’ expectations and realities. Alexei initially uses parallelism to commence each vignette with cultural tension. In second grade, Victor undergoes a conflict with his missionary teacher, who coerced Victor into taking an advanced spelling test and cutting his braids.
Sherman Alexie writes the story “Indian Education” using a deadpan tone to build and connect the years of the narrator 's life together in an ironic way. Alexie is able to utilize irony through the use of separate, short sections within the story. The rapid presentation of events, simple thoughts, and poetic points made within the story enable the reader to make quick connections about the narrator’s life to draw more complex realizations. The art that Alexie uses to write this very short story is poetic in nature through the meaning and structure of his writing. By the fact that the reader can draw deeper conclusions about the narrator 's life from Alexie’s writing is evident that his writing is poetic.
In Reggio Emilia approach, there are many strengths as it supports children that a child’s image is viewed as having rights and not just needs and child has been viewed as beautiful, competent, powerful, curious, creative as well as full of ambitious desires and potentials. In addition, it supports children’s individual differences and needs, documentation that Reggio teachers collect about their students and a mix of long- and short term projects which provide students with a deeper understanding of the subject matter. While the strength in Montessori curriculum is children are 5 prepared for the real world, where they work side by side with people of all ages, they develop self-discipline, independence and analytical thinking, all materials in a Montessori classroom have a proper place, and it is the responsibility of each student to properly store their materials when they are done to maintain order, independence is greatly emphasized and focuses on individual intelligences. The weakness point in Montessori and Reggio Emilia Curriculum: There are some weakness point in Reggio Emilia approach such as this approach puts a lot of emphasis on the importance of large space as is considered educational, Reggio Emilia schools are found in wealthy countries and are attended by children from wealthy families while the poor cannot opt for the Reggio Emilia approach, public schools get limited funding while private schools mostly focus on results and not process and also the

In many countries living in extremely poor conditions, not only is basic health an issue but also the lack of education. Although it is a necessity, “more than 72 million children of primary education age are not in school and 759 million adults are illiterate” (Rights to Education 1). The deprivation of education should be taken serious if a change is wanted. People need to become aware of how important education is and the benefit that it has.
The diversity of student backgrounds, abilities and learning styles makes each person unique in the way he or she reacts to information. The intersection of diverse student backgrounds and active learning needs a comfortable, positive environment in which to take root. Dr. King continues by explaining, “Education which stops with efficiency may prove the greatest menace to society. The most dangerous criminal may be the man gifted with reason, but with no morals.” From back then to today’s society, kids are failing because they lack those morals that they need to succeed.
The significance of education cannot be stated enough, which is an investment to a better future. Getting an education is one of the most powerful things a person can ever obtain. It is crucial to the overall development of the individual and the society as a whole. When individuals do not have the option of getting an education due to the cost of the schools as well as the lack of schools itself. For those living in poverty it can be difficult to earn the same amount of education as other people who are considered middle or high class.
