He Tried to Be Crafty In ( Verses 15–17). Pilate tried craftiness. Now once a year the Governor would release a prisoner to the people. Notice verse 15, “Now at that feast (the Passover Feast) the governor was accustomed to release unto the people a prisoner. And they had then a notable prisoner called Barabbas.” Since Pilate wanted to be so crafty, he thought about putting a man named Barabbas, a notable prisoner against Jesus. Barabbas was a murderer and a thief! So Pilate thought that if he put Barabbas on one side and Jesus side on the other side. And they stood side by side then the people would choose Jesus over Barabbas! You see Pilate was being crafty! He thought that he could use this trick without him making a decision! “Pilate tried to be neutral. Pilate thought, well, if I don’t make a decision the blood of Jesus will not be on my hands. I know what is right but I do not have the intestinal fortitude to do what is right. Pilate took the course of a coward. And tried to wash away his guilt. Saying “I am innocent of the blood of this just man.” Then the people answered, “His blood be on us and our children.” What an evil attitude. When we say the sin that I commit be on me and my children, we are treading on flooding waters. We have to be careful about “sin” because your sin can go down to your children. On Friday I stopped by one of the business enterprises. I was busy and I picked up cloths and jumped in the car and started off to my next stop. But when I got to the next red light my car began to be sluggish. To the point that it wouldn’t go forward. I pressed down on the accelerator but the car wouldn’t move. I was in the middle of the street. I said to myself it sounds like the transmission has gone out. And I began to think about dollar signs. Since I was at the red light I put my car in park! I turned my car off! And started it again I found out that what happened was while I was driving I didn’t put the stick shift completely on drive so it moved on neutral. I thought I had put it on drive but it was on neutral all the time. I couldn’t go
