Mathematics is a subject which is regarded as important for attaining an improved outlook on events occurring in the natural world. Mathematics helps in improving critical thinking and stimulates problem solving abilities.
Mathematics comprises of different chapters and has even given way to another subject namely Additional Mathematics. Hence it’s imperative to have the basic notion of mathematics so as to be able to master the knowledge of Additional Mathematics. From its name itself, we get to know that it is a supplement of mathematics.
In this study, I will be concentrating in one topic in Additional Mathematics namely Trigonometry.
Gillmann (1991) stated “Trigonometry is a unit in which algebraic techniques, geometrical realities

However it is found that students had difficulty in understanding some basic concepts of it and they had disinterest for the topic.(Akkoc, 2008; Durmus, 2004).” From this quote, I can deduce that the cause of failure in trigonometry is due to the most basic explanation. For example, not having the required knowledge of Mathematics trigonometry will absolutely hinder students’ performance in Additional Mathematics.
Based on examiner’s report, students have not been able to understand the concept of period. This is also confirmed by the examiner report for June 2003 paper 1 question 7 stating “very few candidates realized the meaning of amplitude or period and there were very few marks gained for this part.” Sometimes teachers take it for granted that students have really mastered the concept of period so they do not lay much emphasis on this

It plays an important role in number theory and in the theory of music (Pythagoras was the contributor to the mathematical theory of music). Some fields namely pharmatology, probability, seismology, statistics, medical imaging and even psychology used trigonometry
Learning trigonometry in additional mathematics enables learners to extend the mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding developed in the ordinary level mathematics. Students as such are able to use the skills in the context of more advanced techniques. Learners are capable of acquiring a suitable foundation in mathematics trigonometry for further study in the subject.
Taking into consideration my own experience as student, the class was generally teacher centered that is the educator will deliver the content without taking into consideration the learning styles of the students. However it is not necessary that the learner will assimilate all the content delivered by the teacher. Contrarily to the traditional classroom, I believe that constructivist approach will be suitable for the learners as there will be more emphasis and focus on social and communication skills, as well as collaboration and exchange of ideas. Personally, I consider that effective teaching and learning to take place, students must express their feelings about the topic, to voice out their difficulties and anxieties as well as their enjoyment.
Sinaloa mazatlán méxico is one of my favorite because it is a place to take your family. This place is a relaxing place they have many beaches where you can play with your family and do many things and not worry about something happening. The food they sell is mostly sea food they are popular because of the seafood they seal. Seafood is one of the things they sell comes from a nearby ocean and every day they take them out. They have the best Spanish music when people go they hear lots of bands.
Khwarizmi and other mathematician’s established major advances in math and astronomy which proved to help generations to come after their deaths, the achievements made by these scholars proved to be huge and a history changing element used to this day in the modern era of math and astronomy. In conclusion, the huge impacts the achievements made in math and medicine helped shape the history of both subjects, providing a foundation to build upon through centuries later by rising scholars in the era’s to come. Muslim’s rebuilt the scholarship era, building the cultural center in Spain proved to be an incredible achievement itself as the center established a foundation for education and important figures in the subjects of math, astronomy, science, and religion. There is no doubt these 3 achievements produced by Muslims shaped the foundation of education and the subjects under schooling; the achievements impacted the world in a way which had not been seen yet and influenced other cultures to push for similar influences in their
The author appeals to emotion in the heading “Placement tests are “hidden standards”. The heading explains that if a student misses just one year of mathematics then passing the college placement exam will be difficult. The director of the Transition Mathematics Project Bill Moore said “Sometimes students are pushed too hard and too fast. They rush through the curriculum, they take their senior year off, they take a placement test - and have to take remedial math”. He understands that if students are failing they have to recover quickly and it may cause them to not understand the concept and they may end up taking “remedial math” because they were “pushed to hard and too fast”.
During this time, mathematics was a means of solving questions and puzzles that the universe had left
Euclid created a geometry textbook with 465 propositions and proofs about geometry titled Elements. Pythagoras invented the Pythagorean Theorem, which states that “the square of a right triangle’s hypotenuse equals the squared lengths of the two remaining sides. ”(Ancient World History -------) Lastly, Archimedes, a scientist, estimated the accurate value of Pi. Most of these theories although they were not always accurate they led to further
Muslims the people of Islam, have inherited of their culture from Greece, Rome, and India, as well as from those that they have conquered. The Muslims have great tolerance for those that they conquered and because of this they were able to advance scholarship to its highest level, in several areas. As a result of this, the achievements that the Muslims have achieved stand out, and have a long lasting impact on the cultures of our world today. Islam has achieved many incredible feats, in various subjects, in literature and art, math, science and in the medical field. Some of the great achievements in the literature and art field that the Muslims have accomplished include, having a boasting "37 libraries, numberless bookstores, [and] 800
When looking at the pros and cons of each I found that; first, I really focused on the pros of each of the theories and wanted to see the best aspects of each, second, some of the theories played into one another. Social learning is great in that students can learn from observing, so in online learning this might be showing an example of completed work. Or it could be showing a chemistry experiment through a video, the student would be learning through the observing of the video. Constructivism has a focus on the authentic experiences and problem solving. As a teacher I have found that the minute I can make something authentic, or prove that the student will use the concept in another area of their life, the student is on board learning the concept.
However, the best thing about having more class periods was that it meant that I could see more of
Secondly, Pythagoras created one of the most widely used theorems, the Pythagorean Theorem, in which the relationship of the sides of a right angle triangle are calculated in the form a2 + b2 = c2. This was a major contribution to our modern society as the Pythagorean Theorem is still in use today in mathematics, and is one of the major aspects of Euclidean geometry. Finally, Euclid was a contributor modern understanding of mathematics, specifically geometry. According to the University of New Mexico’s NonEuclid page: “Euclidean geometry was named after Euclid, a Greek mathematician who lived in 300 BC.
Geometry in Everyday Careers Geometry is more than just a math class. Geometry is a basic subject of math that teaches knowledge of shapes, planes, points and more. Not only does it offer quick thinking skills but it also gives you a deeper understanding of statistics. It can be applied everyday or in everyday careers. Many jobs require taking geometry and others involve it every day.
Part B Introduction The importance of Geometry Children need a wealth of practical and creative experiences in solving mathematical problems. Mathematics education is aimed at children being able to make connections between mathematics and daily activities; it is about acquiring basic skills, whilst forming an understanding of mathematical language and applying that language to practical situations. Mathematics also enables students to search for simple connections, patterns, structures and rules whilst describing and investigating strategies. Geometry is important as Booker, Bond, Sparrow and Swan (2010, p. 394) foresee as it allows children the prospect to engage in geometry through enquiring and investigation whilst enhancing mathematical thinking, this thinking encourages students to form connections with other key areas associated with mathematics and builds upon students abilities helping students reflect
PCELL: Let me give you a little bit of background on the project, and particularly why I am here at Tri-C. I don’t know how familiar you are with some changes in developmental and first year undergraduate mathematics. It used to be that everyone took courses that were kind of on a calculus track, even though they were never going to take calculous unless that fit unto their major. So, they took classes like college algebra, finite math and trig, just because we have been teaching them for decades.
INTRODUCTION This chapter presents the background and describes the overview of this study which aims to analyze the influence of mathematical ability on subject performance of accounting students in De La Salle Lipa. Background of the Study Numbers dominate every aspect of business transactions, especially the accounting profession. Mathematics has a significant role in the business education and in the world of business. The discipline of accounting focuses on accurate numerical measurement where practitioners this field should be comfortable in dealing with mathematics.
I believe in the student centered approach to teaching. This model has proven to be more effective than the teacher center model. The teacher acts as the facilitator. The student and teacher need to learn what works together. The curriculum should be based on the specific students in the class and the activity that is going on at the time.
TRADITIONAL TEACHING METHODS TO TEACH WITHN THE CONTEXT OF HIGHER EDUCATION Teaching methods refers to the general principles, pedagogy and management strategies used to classroom instruction. The choice to teaching methods depends on what fits educational philosophy, classroom demographic, subject area and school mission statement. The teaching theories can be arrangement into four categories and based on two major parameters- a teacher centred approach versus and a student –centred approach, and high tech material use versus low-tech material use. TEACHER-CENTRED APPROACH TO LEARNING Taken to its most extreme interpretation, teachers are the main figure in a teacher-centred instruction model.
