“Assessment of Tropospheric Ozone Concentration in Natividad Hall, Bulacan State University”
I. Introduction
Ozone is a form of elemental oxygen that occurs in the atmosphere, and is classed as an air pollutant harmful to human health. Using the Schoenbein technique, levels of ozone at sites of interest can be quantified. Ozone molecules are comprised of three oxygen atoms bonded in a structure that is highly reactive as an oxidizing agent, and they occur in both the stratosphere and troposphere levels of the atmosphere. Ozone molecules in the stratosphere form the ozone layer, which helps prevent harmful UV rays from reaching the Earth's surface. In lower altitudes of the troposphere, ozone is harmful to human health, and as a pollutant contributes
1. Which is most responsible for the uneven heating of the air in the atmosphere? a. Radiation b. Convection c. Conduction D. Condensation 2. A pot is heated on a stove. Which process causes the metal handle of the pot to become hot?
DeekshithKumar Thadishetti Professor mankerian LS 690 July 31 2015 Climate change is one of the global issue that requires multiperspective approach. One of the key cause of climate change is air pollution. Air pollution occurs as a result of release of greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. There are two key sources of air pollution that should be targeted if the air pollution is to be reduced. The first source is the industrial stationay sources, which include electric power facilities.
The Houston Water Quality: Is It Really Up to your Standards? According to Forbes Magazine Houston, Texas is known for being one of the dirtiest cities within the United States. When I was conducting research on the city’s water quality, I was surprised to learn how well the city really does take care of their water supply. Contradictory to what I first thought, Houston actually has average or normal amounts of contaminates; their scores were all passing for pollutes found in their drinking water and in fact is one of the best water supplies in the Unites States.. Overall the city also seems to care more about their water safety than what I assumed too, given “providing safe and reliable drinking water is their highest priority.
Air pollution is when particles of dust, gases, and other harmful substances cloud and mask the air into a harmful cloud of oxygen, which we inhale 20 times every minute. And for every minute, we pay the price. Why? Air pollution has grown rapidly over the years and it is no longer something we can joke about. Southern California residents are obligated to take action against the issue of air pollution because it is one of the causes of global warming and negative health impacts and although air pollution has gotten better in Southern California, there are many causes putting California at the top of the list of polluted areas.
The documentary film, about air pollution in El Paso, targets on how humans assist the greenhouse effect increase in this area. In 2004, El Paso was ranked in the top 10% of the whole United States in toxic wastes. The factories and power plants contribute the most toxins that is distributed in the air. There is laws in El Paso that aid to conserve and reduce pollution within the atmosphere since the city has a history of acquiring such toxic fumes. A survey conducted by University of Texas-El Paso students expose that only about 10% of people are aware of the law.
It is possible for the negative impacts of air pollution to spread throughout the entire body, damaging a variety of organs and body parts, while diminishing the body’s ability to effectively function. The fine pollutant particulates, through entry into the lungs, can gain access to portions of the cardiovascular system, causing harm to the heart and blood
At least 1 in 10 people die from air pollution-related diseases, one of the many types of pollution that is life-threatening. This is one of the many reasons people raise awareness for this topic, including Al Gore and Rachel Carson. During his Nobel prize speech, Al Gore talks about the many issues with pollution and the many things that cause it, Rachel Carson also speaks about the issues with pesticide pollution in her story "Silent Spring". The most significant effect that humans have on the environment is pollution. Many things cause pollution, and one of those things is toxic gases, "precisely document the increasing CO2 levels day by day"- Al Gore's Nobel speech page 375, CO2 is a toxic gas, and the amount of it in the air is increasing day by day making the air more toxic to breathe.
Senior citizens and young infants are at risk of having breathing problems due to the unclean air. Our society is putting ourselves at risk by doing simple tasks that emit smog and smoke into our ecosystem. According to the World Health Organization, “The health burden of polluting energy sources is now so high, that moving to cleaner and more sustainable choices for energy supply, transport and food systems effectively pays for itself,” (Neira 1). This quote explains that our lungs are at serious risk when it comes to breathing in polluted air. FAQ air pollution Frequently Asked Questions, emphasizes, “Air pollution is caused by both human and natural sources.

Half of the amount of carbon dioxide generated into the atmosphere is absorbed by plants and the sea water. However, the remaining amount accumulates into the atmosphere causing the greenhouse effect (Boesch 5). Consequently, these changes require accurate data on the distribution of carbon dioxide to manage it. OCO-2 provides precise data that scientists can use to monitor the distribution of carbon dioxide. In particular, it provides data that can be used to improve the existing carbon cycle models which facilitate the reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (Boesch 5)
Meaning, the pollution stays in one area because the winds are suppressed and no longer have the capability of spreading out the polluted air. The author also reveals that the study took place in the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) to study primary pollutants over a large area and so the scientists could compare the polluted air to air in an otherwise clean area. Aerosol tests were taken to discover large amounts of inorganic and organic pollutants as well as black carbon. The Aerosol over the ocean was deemed as similar to that of suburban pollution in North America and Europe. However, since the black carbon concentration was so high the mass had a powerful sunlight absorption characteristic that increased the overall temperature of the area.
Molina worked along his academic advisor, Sherwood Rowland, to discover that the most abundantly used product of the era, CFCs, was the most harmful to the ozone layer. They discovered that the properties that make CFCs a better alternative, such as being non-reactive, was the major reason why they were so harmful to the ozone layer. The non-reactiveness of the CFCs allowed them to pass through the lower atmosphere and to reach the stratosphere. CFCs, like ozone, are decomposed by the ultraviolet radiation which forms chlorine, carbon, and fluorine atoms. After this process, the leftover fluorine atoms are able to break apart the ozone atoms into loose oxygen atom or molecules.
CHAPTER 1 1. INTRODUCTION The air we respire contains mixture of natural and man-made chemical, physical and biological elements that modifies ambient air quality. Among all air pollutants, the most threatening for human health include particulate matter and gaseous pollutants such as carbon monoxide, ozone, nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide (WHO). The movement of people into urban areas and the growth of industry within these areas has carried more people into contact with air pollution than any other time in recent memory.
A ground-level ozone known as Smog formed in polluted regions. This is due to the increased heat and warmer atmosphere created by air pollution and global warming. This type of smog can irritate the lungs and trigger attacks in individuals who have asthma. Long term exposure to the ozone gases are associated with decrease in lung function. (Yeung. 2000)
Before you go to the store, do some research on the bottle of presents that you buy. Get educated, read the label on the back of the product you are using. Next, decide whether that harmful CFC gas for holding your hair or making you smell good id more important than your life. In conclusion, there can be many factors that lead to depletion of the ozone layer but scientists are actually worried about is CFC because they attract great amounts of UV rays, Ir ray, and UV ray B. Without our ozone layer we could become like mercury, a dead planet, with no signs of life.
