In the book “True Grit” Mattie Ross takes revenge on her dad killer. She is angry and is willing to do everything in her power to kill a man named Tom Chaney. Mattie father’s name was Frank Ross and he was shot by Chaney. Mattie develops different emotions toward her father’s death. Along the way Mattie and Rooster faces other men who knew Chaney. Rooster Cogburn kills the men that were a threat to Mattie while they were trailing up the mountains. Mattie is seeking for help and she is not involving her mom. Mattie is on a mission and she won’t stop until Chaney is dead. Mattie travels the mountains on her pony “little blacky” to seek revenge on Chaney. Mattie goes to an event called, “The Hanging”. Even though all the obstacles that comes her way she still fight toward to getting revenge on her father killer. She is a Christian and she believed in Christ. She is a girl who doesn’t like to be told what to do. She don’t like when people trying to take advantage of her and money. She asks strangers questions to identify themselves before she goes asking questions about her father’s death. She is brave and she took a woopen from Mr. Lebeef like a lady. She is a tough smart girl and she is serious when it comes to the people that she cares about. She plans her revenge ahead and go and ask people about how to get in touch with Chaney. Mattie being a girl, “They feel their way through the grief process and are usually able to disclose their most intimate feelings” (Wallace 2). That is what Mattie is trying to do is trying to get rid of Chaney so she can feel that she got the man back who did her father wrong. “As it relates to Mattie, “ Women are more expressive about their loss, more emotional about it and more likely to look for support from others” (Wallace 1). She goes to find help from Rooster while feeling hurt. She hates Chaney for killing her father over something that wasn’t his. She is angry about why Chaney will kill her even though all her father was trying to do is help Chaney. Mattie got older and she never got married or had kids because she never had time for her own
