Kit is angered by this and jumps of the boat to retrieve the doll. When swimming back to the boat, all the Puritans are shocked by the bewitched actions Kit performed. Later that year, sickness struck in Wethersfield, the town in which Kits family lived in. The Puritans blamed all the sickness on Kit because they do not understand how it was spread, so they blame it on what they did not understand. Kit went to court when she helped another non-Puritan women named Hannah Tupper flee the town.
This is what she had to say about that whole situation, “I didn’t volunteer. You can’t take me against my will!” (Marissa Meyer, 54). Her saying this makes you think about what was happening and the fact was that her step sister had volunteered her for the testing. This shows that Cinder has no say so in her house what so ever, and that whatever her sisters or step mother say goes. Cinder is then turned into a test dummy for the doctor because she was taken against her will to the testing site.
I went home that day very upset and my mom questioned me. I told my mom about the bully and she told me that the bully was only making fun of me because she was jealous of me. My mom used to tell me that if anyone was mean to me to ignore it because they were only saying mean things because they were self conscious and unhappy with themselves. Holden, in J.D. Melinda gets depressed and starts expressing her pain through stuff like biting her lips and her nails, and not talking. At the end of the story she finally found her voice and was able to stand up for herself. In the beginning, Melinda didn't talk to anyone, barely even to her parents. She says, “I have tried so hard to forget every second of that stupid party and here I am in the middle of a hostile crowd that hates me for what I had to do. I can't tell them what really happened” (Anderson, 28).
The repetition of these short phrases helps emphasize the anger Walker felt after the accident because she thought she would not be able to ever look up again; Walker puts “you did not change” (49) after every paragraph that is provided with reasons as to her resentment towards her scar. This addition of these smoothly stitched in quotes into the paragraphs of her narrative administers the readers with the constant reminder her family had on her as she struggled to accept her scar (“you did not change” 49). Once Walker shares the story of her scar getting removed the “you did not change”(49) is repeated only once more; this break in repetition shows that once her view of physical beauty is restored she no longer has to ask her family if she changed because she feel as if she “become[s] a different person” (49) because she is now comfortable enough with her appearance that she lifts her head (“ Now that I raise my head I win the boyfriend of my dreams. Now that I’ve raised my head I have plenty of friends.”49). This repetition aids the audience get an idea of the author’s motives for not looking up when she was

That was Hilly favorite dessert to eat, but not just anyone’s pie “Minny’s Pies”.
and Smooth Talk share, is that Connie and her mom are in a very bad state where they do not understand each other and that wish to not be apart of each other. In the book The mother is always saying “Stop gawking at yourself “ or “You think you're so pretty?" (online 1st paragraph). This is obviously not something a mother should say to her teenage daughter, and it definitively a way for teenage to feel like she is being attacked. The movie shows this hatred for one another through an argument that Connie and her mother get into.
