In paper 4, while I found my rhetorical analysis to be satisfactory the paper itself suffered from a myriad of careless mistakes and poor attention to audience. The largest detriment was the number of silly mistakes, most of which appeared in previous papers. Such as forgetting the rubric, and fragmented sentences. However, despite the careless mistakes, the writing related mistakes in my paper were less frequent.

The effort needs to focus on every child and their needs. In his work as an education guru, Robert Marzano offers guidance that could lead us toward curriculum and instruction that celebrate student learning and achievement, but more importantly, growth. Formal assessments are good if they reflect points in the students journey, not as a one and done grade (Marzano, 2013). Formal assessments for students should only represent points on a performance scale. Member, National Honors Society, As an active member of National Honors Society one of our main tenets of leadership is building a strong presence in the community as a whole-school or otherwise. This manifested into offering after school tutoring in math and science areas where the school struggles in terms of college readiness. I was initially apprehensive, wondering if people would show up after school to study. But, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of people willing to take charge of their own learning and taking the after school tutoring extra help. Because I was actively tutoring students I was able to improve my own knowledge of the course material and continuously learn and improve myself.

Individual Plans indicate what support will be put in place to support a learner’s needs, which could be 1:1 support, learning style, font size on the interactive board and a teacher’s position when teaching. Formative assessment is an approach where the teacher can watch and assess the learner throughout the subject. This lets the learner have more control and active learning which encourages the learner to be more responsible by reviewing feedbacks from teachers and using it to build on their self-esteem and motivation.

Some examples of formative assessments are observation, using questioning strategies, and journaling. Some summative assessments examples are lesson rubrics, performance tasks, and art portfolios. Students will also be able to write a self-evaluation after each lesson, and comprehend new strategies and techniques through the collaboration of class discussions. I believe I have progress towards becoming an effective teacher.
I incorporate this learned experience daily and learn through each success and discovered area of improvement. Addressing my students needs using a variety of assessment tools has been a beneficial practice to help guide instruction. Students have different learning styles and their strengths and weaknesses are not always apparent using the same methods of assessment. Utilizing formative, standards(goal)-based, anecdotal, observational and benchmarks has driven my instructional programs. The combination of different assessments provides me with a multi-dynamic perspective of my students allowing me to better understand their strengths, weakness and academic needs.
