History of Theory Two-step flow theory was first introduced by Paul Lazarsfeld in the year 1944 and elaborated by Elihu Katz and Lazarsfeld in year 1955. Before the television was being invented, they conducted an American survey on the mass campaign as it showed that informal social relationship was related in revising the manner in which individuals selected content from the media campaign. They conducted a study that was The People’s Choice to focus on the process of decision making during a Presidential election campaign and it was based on a panel study of 2400 voters in Erie Country, Ohio. The presidential election 1940 questioned as to whether President Franklin Roosevelt would seek his third term in office. It had been funded by grants …show more content…
In this theory, opinion leaders are those constantly exposed to various or specific media content and proceed to interpret it based on their own understanding. The information will be filtered by the opinion leaders and then communicate and reach towards the audiences via the media. This theory deals with the opinion leader and also opinion follower. Opinion leader generally have some form of publicity or followers in which they are able to permeate those opinion through general public who become “opinion followers”. Certain people will have a large influence on how people gain opinions about specific media texts. For example, if someone was saying about Avengers movie was amazing and others people will go and watch it and have the same opinion also. This is because the two step flow theory had affected their mind about what they had …show more content…
They will pass on their own interpretations and understanding to the actual media content and tend to change audiences’ attitudes and behaviours. This theory helps us to understand the media messages had been conveyed by the opinion leaders and they tend to influence audiences’ thought. For instance, this theory can be applied on Colgate Brush Your Teeth public relations campaign in Taiwan. This campaign was launched in congestion of medical health department of Taiwan on educating general public about how unhealthy tooth can cause serious health problem in a long run. The location was set in a shopping mall by showcasing live demonstration of how Colgate can cure common teeth problem and what caused it and along with professional dentist and Taiwan actress Tammy Chen. Tammy Chen is a famous actress in Taiwan and she had gum bleeding problem and caused her to lose the movie contract. She did not know gum bleeding is the premonition of periodontosis as she thought just her body health problem. In order to show to the public that she got a healthy gingiva than before, she became the ambassador of Colgate and appealed to her fans to emphasize on teeth
The predecessor of Roosevelt stated, “He criticizes me because I prosecuted the Standard Oil Company and the Tobacco Company through to the Supreme Court and got decrees there.” Both Roosevelt and Taft had well thought out campaigns that eventually morphed into attempts to turn the people
Was president Franklin Roosevelt’s Court Packing scheme a plan that consisted of a wish to help end America’s Great Depression or was it a hunger for dictatorial power? Franklin Roosevelt based his election campaign on a New Deal, a series of programs he claimed would help end the Great Depression. While Roosevelt won the election, many of his New Deal bills would not win the approval of the United States Supreme Court. Franklin Roosevelt believed the problem lied not in his bills but in the Supreme Court. He believed the four Conservatives Justices would convince Justice Owen Roberts, who was somewhat neutral, to vote against Roosevelt’s bills.
The 2006 British film “The Queen” depicts events that unfolded after the death of Princess Diana in 1997. In the film, the British Royal Family did not react the way the public expected them to. Due to their lack of grief that was publicly shown towards Princess Diana’s death, it resulted in their actions being heavily criticised by British media and the public. Newly elected Prime Minister, Tony Blair, had to step in to help the Royal Family deal with their bad relations to the public, with the help of Diana’s ex-husband, Prince Charles. From the in-depth movie analysis, this essay will be able to show that the media is able to influence the people and their stance towards certain topics by applying these media theories: agenda setting through gatekeeping, dramatization, and two-step flow of communication.

No one knew that this election in the early stages of Americas development would define the future of the United States of America.
Advanced Dental Technology Maintains Oral Health People are struggling to maintain their oral health by not sufficiently and regularly brushing or flossing well enough. Now, if people do not care about or try to at least maintain their oral health then the dental industry could shut down. The reason being, that people do not care enough or do not have enough money to go to dental practices to get an oral checkup, results in having bad oral care. Not long after, people will have to deal with oral diseases and difficulties if they do not get accustomed to taking better care of the inside of their mouths and get the assistance that they need.
An example of this is Lazarfelds two-step flow theory. Baran (2012) states that “behaviour was limited by opinion leaders – people who initially consumed media content on topics of particular interest to them, interpreted it in light of their own values and beliefs, and then passed it on to opinion followed, people like them who had less frequent contact with media.” This theory can only go so far as in this day in age there are so many different mediums used to convey media information. With television, radio, newspapers, magazines, film and social media/internet they have the ability to influence the way we act dress and communicate with others. Our perception of what’s right
Media are platforms of mass communication that can be categorized as either new of traditional media, with new media being forms of communication that make use of technologies such as the Internet, and traditional media being more conventional forms of media such as newspapers. Media, primarily new media, is getting more popular and influential, especially in today’s day and age since we are exposed to it a lot more than in the past and also since media is more easily accessible now. The media can shape our behaviours, perceptions and opinions, and it is important to know how people are influenced and impacted by it. The media can influence someone’s perception of social reality, or perceptions of beauty or even influence people’s behaviours and habits and therefore, the media does shape who we are. One way that the media can shape who we are is by influencing our perception of social reality.
The theory explains “how individuals use mass communication to gratify their needs” (Burgeon, Hunsaker and Dawson, 1994, cited in Udende and Azeez, 2010, p. 34). The theory holds that “people influence the effects that mass media have on them” (Anaeto et al, 2008 cited in Edegoh, Asemah and Nwammuo, 2013, p. 23). The assumption of the theory is that people are not just passive receivers of media messages; rather, they actively influence the message effects. Media audience selectively choose, attend to, perceive and retain media offerings on the basis of their needs, beliefs, etc., thus, “there are as many reasons for using the media as there are media users”
