Surrogacy is a procedure in which a baby is born by a woman other than the biological mother due to fertility problems with the mother and/or the father of the child. Although it still isn’t a very common practice in our country, various childless couples are opting for surrogacy to bear children.
There are two types of surrogacy - gestational surrogacy and traditional surrogacy. In case of circle surrogacy, the gestational carrier - mother carrying the baby has no genetic connection with the baby. This procedure involves IVF - in vitro fertilization. The embryo is created in a lab and is then planted in the mother’s uterus. In case of traditional surrogacy, a surrogate mother becomes pregnant using her own eggs.

Reproductive cloning is the production of a genetic duplicate of an existing organism. A human clone is therefore a genetic copy of an existing person. Following this major scientific and technological breakthrough, it raised the possibility that humans can be cloned using the same procedure‒
In the ever-changing world of science, in vitro fertilization has taken fertility to another level. In “Test-Tube Babies: Solution or Problem?” Ruth Hubbard describes just how in vitro fertilization works and the many risks factors the procedure brings with it. Hubbard gives her audience statistical evidence of women with unsuccessful pregnancies then follows it with historical evidence about the first women to ever receive in vitro Louise Brown in July, 1978. Although one might conclude that Hubbard would support in vitro she makes a shocking statement “But as a woman, a feminist, and a biologist, I am opposed to using it and developing it further.”

In this article the author, Laurie Shrage affirms that forced fatherhood is not something that we should be doing simply because it is not only unhealthy but unfair. She asks the question should men have the same rights and control over when and how they become a father. I appreciate a lot of this article; Shrage goes on to explain with insight from political philosopher Elizabeth Brake, who has a great view on this topic. Brake brings up that fact that “if women’s partial responsibility for pregnancy does not obligate them to support a fetus, then men’s partial responsibility for pregnancy does not obligate them to support a resulting child.” This is one of many important points of Brakes, that Shrage uses to support her argument.
The term ‘gene editing’ helps people understand how the technology works, but it also suggests a level of precision and safety that at least for now isn’t there.” Furthermore, some people may need to use another women’s egg for this process, whether to replace their egg or to have in addition to their egg. Three-parent babies are human offspring with three genetic parents, created through a specialized form of in vitro fertilization in which the future baby's mitochondrial DNA comes from a third party. Ellen Goodman is an award-winning, American journalist with the freedom of speech well within her rights. Notwithstanding, Goodman’s opinion piece “Womb for Rent” puts a light-hearted perspective on a heavy controversy: surrogacy. Throughout “Womb for Rent,” Goodman uses risky techniques to convey her point of view of the economic marketplace involving surrogacy, which causes confusion to the reader. “Womb for Rent” by Ellen Goodman uses puns and plays on words. This type of literary device intends to create a humorous effect, but surrogacy is not commonly a ‘humorous’ topic.
In vitro fertilization is the process by which an egg is fertilized by sperm outside of the body and then the embryo or embryos are then transferred to the uterus. This process has been used since the 1970’s and doctors keep finding ways to improve it. People worldwide have a very divided opinions about the use of IVF. Some see it as an opportunity to have a family and being able to have kids at an age where they feel comfortable enough, instead of having kids at an early age because of the risks that they would have if they wait. Women also have a better chance of getting their preferred job position if they know that they do not have to decide between a healthy baby or their job.

Surrogacy is performed for many reasons including: same-sex marriage, damaged uterus, age, history of miscarriages and other medical conditions.
