Abstract— People with serious visual impairments can travel independently, using a wide range of tools and techniques. They are taught how to travel safely, confidently, and independently in the home and the community. Use of cane has many disadvantages such as limited perception and lack of depth assessment. In this paper, we have proposed a system that overcomes the difficulties faced by the cane by using ultrasonic sensor, GPS and GSM. Keywords — Ultrasonic sensor, GPS, GSM.Bluetooth HC-05, Voltage Regulator, Android Application. I. INTRODUCTION Human eye is probably the most important sense organ as it gives the sense of sight, allowing people to observe things around them and thus learn more about the surrounding world. …show more content…
It is clear from the above block diagram that the ultrasonic sensor attached with the system will be connected to the microcontroller for detecting any obstacle in front of the stick and send the digital signal to the microcontroller for converting it into speech. The accelerometer attached with the system will detect the falling movement of blind people and send the signal using Bluetooth technology. The Cell phone paired with blind people will detect the real time location of the system and send it to the remote location. VI. PROJECT METHODOLOGY Walking stick for visually challenged using ultrasonic sensors, microcontroller, GPS, speech ic, speakers and vibrators is integrated in a long stick. The first step is to detect the distance and speed of an obstacle from the user and is done by using ultra sonic sensors. VII. COMPONENTS USED a) ATMega16 Microcontroller The ATmega16 is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the ATmega16 achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz allowing the system designer to optimize power consumption versus processing speed. \figref{fig:opepos}) and then gathered acceleration data of the smarphone and smartwatch. Firstly, we asked the participant to wear a smartwatch on his left wrist. After wearing the watch, we also asked the participant to perform contexts that were showed the smartphone's display in a randomized order for approximately ten seconds or until we give the participant a sign. These contexts are described by using document with the instructions. When the participants perform a'\,--\,j', we asked the participant to perform while walking between signs: the diameter between the signs is 10\,meters (approxiametely 10.94\,yd).
Throughout chapters 8 and 9 of Your Inner Fish, Neil Shubin discusses the relationship between humans and other organisms, specifically the connection regarding the sense of smell and vision. Fossils and the geological record are powerful sources of evidence about the past. By extracting DNA from a tissue of varying species, the history of any part of the body, such as smelling, can be deciphered. Similar to fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds, the human’s sense of smell is housed in the skull. Like the other animals, there are one or more holes through which air is brought inside and a set of specialized tissues where chemicals in the air can interact with neurons.
When reading Stereo Sue by Oliver Sack in 2006, I realized how important our vision is in multiple ways. The memory of a close friend that passed a few years ago continued to come to mind. My friend named Bill Vickery lost his vision after a surgery on his optic nerve where the nerve was beyond repair and completely damaged. Shortly after his surgery and the loss of sight be started to fall into depression and I was able to see he really needed some help.

Surgical technology is a profession meant for people who don’t visualize their selves working in front of a computer, spending their whole day with paper works or waiting for the time to pass. This line of work suits well for those individuals who are hungry for action. It is a career made for the brave, the fast and the people who consider themselves as OCDs. Surgical technologists are the “worker bees” of the operating room.
Every year, thousands of pedestrians are injured as they walk in cities. Some researchers say 1 out of 10 of those injuries are caused by a “distracting mobile device such as a phone or portable music player” (“Walking While Looking down”). Undoubtedly, the risk for injury in a crowded city increases greatly when technology is a distraction. In this day and age, technology is all over the place, no matter where you are in a moments time, technology is all around you. Lots of times technology is used positively, but more often than not, technology is not used wisely and safely.
What is an ultrasound technician you ask? An ultrasound technician is a person employed, skilled, and licensed to use a machine to examine and see body structures such as, tendons , muscles, joints, vessels, and internal organs. The main idea is to find a disease. There is also what you call an obstetric ultrasound which is used specifically just for examining pregnant women.
South University Jane Emond NTR 2050 Dr. Weintraub August 3, 2015 The five senses, sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. All amazing on their own, but when all are working independently of each other properly people can function pretty well. However, when the slightest disruption interferes with how our senses work properly life can become pretty unbearable at times. Just to name a few issues such as the common cold, seasonal allergies, conjunctivitis, and ear infections can very easily cause the balanced system to go out of whack.
1.Identify the problem being addressed and is it a new problem or a well known problem? There are a variety of wearable sensors like location beacons, accelerometers, cameras, and physiological sensors. But then, there is a need to develop a single device that can monitor a wealth of activities. Secondly, there is a need to develop tools and techniques for continuously sensing user activities of interest, in order to develop a variety of truly ubiquitous computing applications.
In Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, the concept of sight and blindness is shown countless times throughout the play. In Oedipus Rex there is both literal blindness and figurative blindness. This play has a character who is blind, which is an example of literal blindness and a character who can see visually but unable to perceive the truth. The concepts of sight and blindness has a major role in Oedipus Rex. It lets the reader know that sight is not only based on what you see, but also based on one’s perspective, that the blind may see more than someone who is not blind, and that sometimes being able to see may not be a blessing but a curse. These are some of the roles of sight within Oedipus Rex.
Needlestick injuries are injuries due to exposed and improper use of needles or sharps. The ANA in 2010, commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, which improved protection against these injuries that expose health care workers to potentially deadly blood borne pathogens. These injuries, unfortunately, are still occurring today and far too often. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in March 2000, estimated that approximately 62-88 percent of sharps and needlestick injuries are preventable. Health care workers that handle sharp devices or equipment like scalpels, sutures, needles, phlebotomy devices or blood collection devices are all at risk but nurses are at a very high risk for being exposed to these preventable injuries which exposes them to numerous bloodborne pathogens especially deadly viruses such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDs.
The concept of accessibility extends to a wide range of facilities that are a part of our everyday usage such as elevators, Braille signage and sound-enabled signals at pedestrian crossings. The overall aim of this concept is to enable people with special requirements to gain access to aspects of everyday life that include transportation, education, employment, housing, entertainment and so on.
We have been used to living with perception so we molded our living around our senses and most of the knowledge we acquire is through them. However there are certain flaws to it, such as optical illusions and background that influences our perception, that makes us question how accurate our way of seeing the world is. Overall, sense perception is a good way of knowing if shared with other people so, with all the different perceptions of the world due to different life experiences, it all can be combined in a greater a more accurate perception of
