Ulysses is lost. Uncertain of his future, his present and his well being. He is abandoned, he wanted to stay but he couldn’t, it seemed like his whole future was snatched away by his own beloved parents, they are irresponsible, they could not even find another way, they weren’t doing their best, this made him rebellious because he had his own dream to be a medical practitioner. He wants to run away and find his chances on another village maybe there he’ll find a miracle or magic of some sort. Ulysses is my friend, my classmate and he came to me asking for my help and it is urgent that I must because Ulysses is depressed and that subject alone needs my attention. In this time of our lives it’s natural to be lost or uncertain; uncertain of …show more content…
He can’t live without the two of those and now he is forced to live without one of those. In my opinion, his parents are the ones at fault, they are irresponsible of their child. It’s a parent’s job to sustain their child’s future and well being given that they cannot sustain their own essential needs. Ulysses is angry with his parents for their lack of alternative. Can’t they do something about it? All of those problems, choices and his own inabilities is already enough to gravely affect him and that effect is depression. Depression is dangerous. It’s not a subject to be taken lightly and not a disorder that can be …show more content…
I want to be very positive about this. In order to resolve his problems it’s a must to be positive, in my opinion it’s the only solution where the rest of his choices can follow. Positive is greater than negative is counteracts against negative forces and that’s exactly what Ulysses has to do and of course with the assistance of everyone around him. He has to hold on tight on what he has left, his friends, his family and his life. As his friends we are always here to support him in his triumphs, regarding his parents; they need to reconcile with their son and they NEED to find alternatives. There are many alternatives such as loans, scholarship and assistance from other relatives, they can never run out of financial sources. I won’t go much into details of what might be the reason they can’t but in my opinion they can and they must. Finally he still have his life, he is the captain of his own ship and the master of his own fate and that’s exactly what he has to be, a captain or a master, he has to make a choice and literally make a choice. He doesn’t have to dwell on those two choices he can make a lot more choices and for opportunities for himself. We dwell on this world to follow our own path and also to create it. Ulysses always talked about being a medical practitioner and all that I can say to him is “ so be it”. Those three words must always be the answer when we dream about becoming something. Ulysses can continue his education, he
His action impacts the family and takes a heavy toll on his relationship with his family. Troy's relationship with Corey is complex. As of most father would like to see their kid become a successful member of Society.
However, he does not. The Fairchilds have come to appreciate his virtues, his diligence, his love of the land, and his understanding of Dabney’s need to remain near her roots (Reisman, Rosemary M. Canfield. " Delta Wedding." Magill’S Survey Of American Literature, Revised Edition (2006) par. 3). In other words the family finally comes around and see that Troy is a good person and can be good for Dabney.
He got two times the amount of bread due to his father being dead. His father died a hard death and his biggest fear had come. He became a selfish person because he had been helping other people and doing things for other people all of his life.
Troy’s father does not care for his family not even providing food or place to stay for Troy. Throughout the play, Troy creates a similar relationship with his son Cory. Although Troy thinks that he is showing love through providing economic stability to his family, Cory is unable to understand Troy’s thinking. To Troy, love toward his family meant providing food and clothing every day. Troy remembers his father as a person who “wasn’t good for nobody” (Wilson I).
Many people have moments where an event or something gets between them, their relatives, or their friends. Although, soon enough, family and companions get through it and remember what is most important: their relationship. In both Flora & Ulysses and Raymie Nightingale, the author, Kate DiCamillo communicates a message about the concept of good relationships. The book Flora & Ulysses takes place in present day plus it is fiction. Raymie Nightingale during the summer of 1970, and it is realistic fiction.
Henry rushes to town and just in time sees a wagon leave, carrying their family. He is in great despair and knows he will never see his family again. The only thing now to live and fight for is his freedom. With a help
Through this play, Wilson is trying to show the audience that fathers definitely have a lasting impact on their kids throughout their lives. An audience sees this through the character Troy, in how his rough relationship with his father causes him to treat his two sons with a strict and demanding attitude. Although Troy distanced himself from his father at the age of fourteen, he still had a burdened relationship that affected him in the long term. This recurs again with Lyons and Cory when they both try to set apart from what their father wants them to do, and at the end of the play, they feel as though they turned out just like their father. The main ideal that Wilson is trying to show his audience that those who we surround ourselves with have such a lasting influence that can change our whole way of living and carrying ourselves.
So his choice cost him his family and his parents’ choice could have very well cost him his pride. The story does not elude to the events that came next so the reader can only
In the midst of all of this he finds a balance by focusing on what really matters. At the same time this keeps him focused on his main goal which is education. Education will be his family's way out of poverty. Through seeing his younger brother that is unemployed and will be having a child soon he looks beyond this and is genuinely proud of where he comes from. He realizes how strong his family is when he seems them fighting through poverty and making things.
The character feels an almost bittersweet sensation here due to his father not being there for him in times when he needs him. It is a tragedy that even though he is relieved that his health is in satisfactory condition, his father is not because of his own choices of an unsatisfactory
However, his use of tough love and lack of approval towards his children creates conflict in the play, which suggests the importance of a father’s emotional role in a family. The role as a breadwinner: In Troy’s mind, he has done everything right as a father because he has provided his family with basic needs for survival: a place to live, food on the table, and clothes on their backs. His strong work ethic has made him the man he is today; but he often burns all his fuel at work and, at the expense of his family, copes with his pain by drinking.
Therefore he starts drinking more, being that he cannot stand not being the center of everyone’s attention. But all the problems he has originated from, and worse than that, he does nothing productive to try and fix any of them. This once again proves that Troy is unsuitable to be a proper father for Cory and a respectable husband for Rose. Troy loses the dignity, respect and even love that was once given to him by his friends and family. His own selfish needs are fuel for the destruction of the life he once knew.
‘’ Lyons attitude represents that he doesn’t want to live like his father. He wants a comfort and the way of everyone’s in life; however, his father wants that he follows his rule and leave their dreams this shows how Troy is a
Even though the conflicts with the sons are greatly shown in Wilson’s work, that conflict is merely one of the main problems. Having a father that in job for most of your life can be a horrible experience for a son. That what his older son have to experience because of Troy’s imprisonment. This causes Troy treat Lyon different from his other son, Cory. In a way, he wanted to make up for being gone out of Lyon’s life for the most part.
Jane Addams once said “[a]ction indeed is the sole medium of expression for ethics”. This quote is seen throughout two complex medias: John Milton’s Paradise Lost and the film “The Matrix”. In Paradise Lost, Eve, a woman who is tempted by Satan, faces a difficult decision between eating from a tree that gives her knowledge or staying loyal to God. In “The Matrix”, Neo, the main character that converts to the Matrix, must face the hard choice between experience the real world or continuing living in the fake world. Similarly, these two are given the option to experience knowledge since they have lived in a world where knowledge is nonexistent.
