(AGG) Suzanne Fisher Staples book Under The Persimmon Tree is a very well made book that should teach people how life is in a different part of the world through a different person's perspective.(BS-1) Najmah loses people in her family throughout the course of the book and is very heartbroken and traumatized, it also shapes her in a way. (STEWE-2) While traveling the mountains Akhtar builds a canopy and tells them to stay there while he looks for food. Najmah and the others had to not move or talk while under the shawls and she tries to feel safe by imagining a star that Bada-jan taught to her and Nur,“I think of Nur and my father, and look up for al-Qutb, the star that never moves, before I remember we are under the cover of the shawls”(107). In Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns the historical context unravels before the eyes of the reader as time grows more modern. When reading the story one sees that many things have changed over time. One may witness that the use of automobiles are just coming about, along with the use of indoor plumbing. As the story goes along, the author explains the historical context of a small southern town in 1906.
Barbara Kingsolver: The Bean Trees The Bean Trees is a novel about a young girl who becomes a young woman by overcoming a series of trials that life throws at her. Part of those “trials” is taking care of a three year old child who has been abused both physically and sexually. Taylor is able to pass each and every one of the hardships that are thrown her way. In the book you can definitely see Taylor go through the coming-of-age process.
“The Pashtun talib mutters something, and the men shove and drag baba-jan and my brother toward the Datsun pickup trucks. … I hear the pickup trucks leave, but I am struggling with mada-jan and cannot see them” (Staples 18). (STEWE-2) In this quote Najmah’s father and brother get taken away. And Najmah’s mother is crying and trying to go after them.
The quote also shows how loyal they are to their father and how almost nothing can change their mind. The other reason Najmah wants to leave to go to Golestan is because she feels she has put Nusrat in danger while she is in danger. "I have grown used to feeling safe with Bibi Nusrat, and my heart feels leadin when I realize that Nur and I are in danger again, and because of us, Bibi Nusrat is also in danger.(page 257)" Najmah feels as if she is putting Nusrat a life on the line when she goes with her any where now. Najmah 's solution to that is to leave her so no one will get hurt. Other people in Nusrat 's family do not support the idea of Najmah and Nur leaving but they still want to help. "
(AGG) Going through the phase of loss makes someone a new person, Najmah’s story is based off of this experience in her life. (BS-1) As a result of Najmah’s father and brother being kidnapped, Najmah changed her way of living for the rest of her journey. (BS-2) After the death of Mada-jan and Habib, Najmah’s view of her family was changed. (BS-3) Najmah becomes courageous towards the end of the book, and knows what she will do in order to survive.

Janet Finch’s novel, White Oleander depicts the idea that a characters determination to assume power, results in control. Astrid is able to gain control through manipulation that she uses towards her mother, her fear of loss, and her skill of creating artwork. To begin, control can be achieved through manipulation extending from determination. While Astrid and her foster mother, Claire, visit her mother, Ingrid, in jail, Astrid is forced to threaten her with never visiting again.
In the novel The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver, Taylor faces many obstacles. Throughout the obstacles that Taylor faces she grows and changes into a new person unlike the one that she was before. Taylor is a girl who does not want to be stuck in her home state of Kentucky any longer. She leaves her mother in Kentucky to try and find a way to create herself a new life. Becoming a mother so quickly and helping Esperanza and Estevan are obstacles that Taylor faces during trying to start her new life.
The clear motif from the artwork is the pomegrante tree due to the present figure of a plant and it’s containing fruit of pomegranates. To branch out from just it’s literal piece, names of the characters who represent the parts of the tree are on there. Such as, Hassan being the roots of the figure because he is loyal and still in the relationship. While Amir is the fruit of the tree through his sourness towards Hassan. Therefore, In The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the pomegranate tree is used to demonstrate how Amir and Hassan’s friendship is put on view through the different parts that signify them when the motif is set out in the text.
In the book Tangerine by Edward Bloor This moment represents is, paul finley seeing dad actually doing something with him and for him instead of mom. Tone Of The Story The woods was the only safe way to get out doors, but with the new rich neighbors moving in, there was nothing but darkness. The population law destroyed luke 's life by making him live indoors with the shades down and the dark colored room. In “Among the Hidden” there is a very dark tone and it really affects his life. The dark tones are the wood being cut down, the darkness of his room and the windows that are never open.
