The unemployment rate in America of 2010 was 9.6% and in October 2017 it was 4.1%. So over a time period of 7 years it went down a total of 5.5%. Over time the unemployment rate is going down, so people are getting jobs and not being unemployed. Unemployment is when you’re in the state of being unemployed or not having a job. The department of Labor is a organization that helps the unemployed get back on their feet and we as students can do our part in the future.
The cause of unemployment is the lack of available jobs and work spaces. “When being unemployed, the longer you are unemployed the less attractive you might be to potential employers”. “When being unemployed it can hurt the rest of the economy, when you have less money to spend because of unemployment, other companies suffer from less consumer demand”.so the companies won’t have the money to keep their business running,

“The Department Of Labor fosters, promote, and develop the wellbeing of wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the united states; improve working conditions; and advances opportunities for profitable employment.” “The Organic act establishing the Department Of Labor was signed on march 4th, 1913 by reluctant president william howard taft.” “ This act prepared the way for a much broader labor standards bill setting minimum wages and maximum work hours for most industrial workers. In the words of the Organic Act, “the departments purpose is to foster, promote and develop the welfare of working conditions, and to enhance their working opportunities for profitable employment. “With the entry of the U.S. into world war 1 on april 5th, 1917 adequate war production became a national necessity and issues of working conditions and labor peace assumed paramount importance.” So the department’s purpose is to foster, promote, and develop the wellbeing of wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States. Based on freedom and equality, America is today the country the most unequal amongst developed countries. Today there is a very big difference between the ideal, what Americans think and the reality of the income distribution. There is only a very small share in the middle class. This is a major crisis in the United States indeed, 1 per cent of the rich have 40 per cent of the country’s wealth.
For example, the formation of the Department of Labor on March 4, 1913, by President Taft with its sole .purpose being to promote and monitor the wellbeing of workers, to improve working conditions, and to enhance profitable employment. There are currently a list of regulations that must be followed in factories or owners will suffer consequences and therefore lose their economic profits. A grievance system was established and workers unions are stronger than ever with the power to strike and stop factories from producing materials while trying to prevent such tragedies from ever occurring again. “Even today, sweatshops have not disappeared in the United States. They keep attracting workers in desperate need of employment and undocumented immigrants, who may be anxious to avoid involvement with governmental agencies.
This act creates a minimum wage, a minimum workweek of 40 hours, time and a half for overtime, and child labor restrictions for those under 16. To end WWII Roosevelt helped in signing the Peace treaty. This needs the fighting in Europe. Washington and Rosevelt faced many different domestic and foreign challenges while in office.
During the period 1914 to 1939, the United States went through many events, including WWI, the Great Depression, the growth of federal power, and technological revolution. All of these events had a great influence on the lives of American workers. However, the government policy might be the most influential factor that changed or contributed to American workers. The government policy benefited workers’ working conditions and the quality of life.
Labor and the US Government from 1890-1945 A key aspect of this nation’s history lies in the ever-shifting relationship between its government and its common man, most specifically its labor workers. This relationship plays a crucial role in the understanding of the changes that took place in America between 1890 and 1945. The changing relationship between government and labor workers in the United States between 1890 and 1945 demonstrates a period of unrest and a transitional period in which the focus shifted towards the working class as a result of the greed and corruption of 19th century business elite , as can be seen in the labor strikes requiring government intervention of the late 19th century, the progressives of the early 20th century
“In the United States history of unions, early workers and trade unions played an important part in the role for independence” (Union Plus). In 1866, the National Labor Union (NLU) ambitiously tried to achieve equal rights for women, African Americans, and mandate eight-hour work days. They managed to convince Congress to adopt the eight-hour work day, but only for federal employees. The American Federation of Labor (AFL) with approximately 1.4 million members was successful in wage negotiation, and enhanced work conditions for its members. “A combination of factors contributed to the debilitating Panic of 1873, which triggered what the public referred to at the time as the “Great Depression” of the 1870s” (OpenStax College, 2014).
This event caused people to lose trust in all unions, causing unions to lose headway in changing the labor laws for the better (Cummings). March 4, 1913 United States Department of Labor was established President William H. Taft signed the bill that would establish the Department of Labor on this date. The Department of Labor was created to protect the welfare of the people who are out there working, it would help to improve the working conditions for the workers, and it would help workers earn a profit for their labor (United States Department of Labor). I believe this event to be important in the evolution of labor laws during the industrial revolution because it would help to create many labor laws, and dramatically improve the working conditions that would include new safety regulations. 1932
They had to provide a safer, fairer working environment for the people. Congress “Creates [the] National Labor Relations Board to prevent unfair labor Practices” (Chart 1). The National Labor Relations Act encouraged and allowed workers under private sector to collectively bargain over their wages. The act helped to create a more fair working environment and pay, for the people employed under private sectors. Another matter that needed to be confronted by FDR and his administration was the unfair pay that many workers received.
During the interwar years, workers in the United States faced multitudes of oppression. Many hardships were difficult for the workers to overcome because of the lack of government intervention and organization by the workers. The lack of legislation to protect workers and the lack of planning on the workers’ part made the prevalence of strong unions scarce. It was not until the 1930s that the government had finally begun to take action and the workers realized that they needed to efficiently work together.
Adult unemployment has been a problem in society for decades. With it being at an all time high of 25 percent during the Great Depression. Today it has dropped to 4.9 percent. Adult unemployment is also a commonly used soapbox for major political elections. Programs like workforce commissions, welfare and unemployment benefits all help people who cannot work or just choose not to work at all.
3.1 How income inequality affect on people live in America. The income gap in America affects people, who live in this country. The issue has a strong impact in America’s society; in particular, the nutritional disparity between rich and poor people. In USA, the food gap becomes the top signal for the class distinction, but it used to be clothing or fashion. The food inequality in America is not only influencing the poverty, it is also cost hundreds of billions of dollar per year because of Non Communicable Diseases (NDCs) (Ferdman, 2014).
America prides itself on being one of the most effective democratically governed counties. The idea of the American dream is that all people have equivalent political freedoms and a responsive government. However the effectiveness of social equality is being threatened by increasing inequality in the United States. Economic inequality in the US has expanded drastically. The wealth gap has had drastic changes over the past 35 years.
Unemployment will cause lower salaries because more workers but less jobs, so the people that cannot find a job in China they will find a job in other countries. Some of the degree graduated student cannot find a job in the China because there was not job for them. According to Patience (2013), the companies were less hiring 15% graduated students from last year. That was a bad news for the graduated students because they were just a few of companies’ job to choose. Unemployment make the students stress.
Unemployment happens when individuals are without work and effectively looking for work.[1] The unemployment rate is a measure of the pervasiveness of unemployment and it is figured as a rate by separating the quantity of unemployed people by all people presently in the work power. Amid times of recession, an economy more often than not encounters a generally high unemployment rate.[2] According to International Labor Organization report, more than 200 million individuals universally or 6% of the world 's workforce were without a vocation in 2012 There remains significant hypothetical civil argument with respect to the reasons, outcomes and answers for unemployment. Traditional financial matters, New established financial aspects, and the Austrian School of financial matters contend that market instruments are solid method for determining unemployment.
Typically, one does not think about unemployment being a social problem, unless you are someone that is unemployed or has experienced unemployment. Unfortunately, unemployment is becoming a serious social problem today in society. Many people who happen to be unemployed are more than capable of working they just do not have the proper experience or flexibility that a job requires. Many are also unemployed because there are not enough jobs for everyone. The unemployment rate is rising every day and the something needs to be done to stop this.
