Unemployment has always been a problem in the United States and a problem generally everywhere. Citizens either have a difficult time finding a job, keeping one, or working at jobs that don’t pay enough to support themselves and their families. Taxes could also be a major factor in having careers. Taxes takes out a percentage of money every time a working citizen gets paid either with a check or through direct deposit. There was a high unemployment crash in 2008. However, the employment rate has been rising steadily afterwards. 2008 was the worst time for job unemployment since 1945. The unemployment rate for Alabama was at 6% by August and rose steadily to 11.9% by October of next year. California had a rate of 7.5% and Pennsylvania had a 5.7% unemployment rate. Those who worked several part-time jobs jumped from 715,000 to about 8 million. The highest record jump since 1955. All types of jobs were lost and thousands were fired. What makes people unequal to others in their mind? Many think others are unequal because they are simply different from them. The possibilities on being different from another person are almost infinite, but most often, and not limited to, are race, religion, gender, sexuality, or just being an outcast. Looking at just the United States, it is a huge melting pot based on immigration throughout history. Being an immense melting pot is a blessing and a curse; while it creates cultural diversity, it also creates discrimination, which America is notoriously known for.

The American Dream is often sought of as the ultimate accomplishment. Millions of immigrants travel to the United States every year to chase after the American dream not only for themselves, but for their families too. No matter your social status, upbringing, ethnicity or gender, through hard work you can become anything, and my parents chased after that for me. Stiglitz describes that there is a 1 percent amount of American’s who are consuming about a quarter of the United States income in a year.

Immigrants motivations, experiences, and impacts shaped what an immigrant had to go through being a different person from another country. Although Americans dislike foreigners who came to the United States, immigrants had a role in political, economic, cultural, and social aspects of immigrants because of their motivations, experiences, and impacts in America. New Immigrants did not have it easy and went through obstacles natives, political figures, bosses and others had thrown at them.
Poverty in America is a difficult topic to speak on; everyone has their own views and experiences on poverty. Certain social trends have impacted the society such as Family Dynamics; The way families are now are a lot different than families of the 1950’s-1960’s, In many cases both adult members of the family are working instead of the traditional husband working to support the family. Even with both members working full time it is still hard to support an average family due to working class wages not adjusting to inflation. Poverty has been increasing at a dramatic rate and the government is supporting more and more people with perverse incentives.
