Around the world, people are affect by sex trafficking everyday. This is a touchy subject that is not talked about often. A YouTube Channel called “collapsefilms” attempts to display what sex trafficking is. While the advertisement aims to spread awareness of sex trafficking, it is problematic because it fails to show the whole truth of what sex trafficking actually consists of, uses stereotypical white actors, it fails to show hard facts, and it is not clear in its overall message.
Inhumanity is also illustrated in the film: a policeman sexually disgraces an innocent woman, an HMO agent denies to give favor to a suffering man, an annoyed man buys a gun to get revenge, and an Asian is engaged in the human trafficking. The film also depicts the people’s humanity as well, as the housekeeper comes to the help of her employer, the policeman takes the risk of his life to save the same woman he misbehaved, and the carjacker leaves a chance to sell a van, loaded with the
After reading Sold by, Patricia Mccormick I realized that no matter how many men a thirteen year old sleeps with, ther innocence still exists. Underneath the violation and dehumanization a child still exists. No matter how many men Lakshmi gets taken advantage by she still exists. Patricia Mccormick captures the lifestyle that a sex trafficking victim endures through a number of interviews in India and Nepal. The author captures every aspect and angle of human sexual exploitation.
Sex Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery that exists throughout the United States and globally. It is one of the biggest lies in society (Farley et., 2014). The Vanderbilt Law Review indicates that the majority of prostitutes do not enter the prostitution lifestyle on their own free will choice, but instead becomes a prostitute due to a variety of vulnerabilities that both pimps and traffickers exploit. This explains why young women get blindsided and think they are becoming a prostitute when in reality they are a sex trafficking victim (Elrod 2015). When the United States made prostitution illegal, it did not change the mentality of the johns.
Human smuggling is a type of illegal immigration in which an agent is paid to help a person cross the border clandestinely. Human trafficking is the exploitation of unwillingly or unwitting people through force, coercion, threat, or deception. (Schmalleger; Pg. 380) The difference between the two, is that human smuggling the party/individual is aware and willing to cross the border, and in human trafficking the party/individual is unaware or unwilling to cross the border. It pretty sad to think that this issue is easily over looked every day, but I think the best way to help stop the issue is make people more aware of the issue.
The legal and non-legal responses to the contemporary issue of human trafficking and slavery (HTS) are effective to a certain extent, but is increasingly being questioned. Human trafficking (HT) is the commercial trade or trafficking in human beings for the purpose of some form of slavery, usually involving recruiting, transporting or obtaining a person by force, coercion or deceptive means. Slavery involves a form of forced or bonded labour, with or without pay, under threat of violence. The United Nations (UN) outlines the ban on slavery and torture under Articles 3 and 4 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), stating that “no one shall be held in slavery or servitude or be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading
The group of people who do not have the rights that every human should be guaranteed or the power to put an end to their hardships is continuously rising. A few of the basic necessities of life are being denied to this group. From being tricked into leaving their families for false promises of a better life, to being forced to live in a run-down community, these people do not even have the resources to improve their lives or the ability to leave the situation they are in. Even though their situations are different, they still go through the same struggles and are forced to live in harsh conditions due to a lack of power and a lack of interest from those who do have the authority to make a change. Human trafficking produces billions of dollars in profit every year, it is right behind drug trafficking as the most lucrative form of crime throughout the world. (DHS website). Victims of human trafficking rarely come forward due to the threats of murder, threats of killing their loved ones/friends, as well as having nowhere else to go because they have been ostracized from their own family and their “pimp” is their family. Another issue of why victims do not come forward is that they are afraid of law enforcement so they may go to jail, etc. (DHS website)
Every year, millions of people are trafficked in countries around the world, including the United States. Most of this people are immigrants from developing communities, who are transported to developed communities that are more prosperous. Traffickers use immigrant’s workers unfamiliarity with the language, laws and customs as an advantage to manipulate or exploit them in their new environment . Traffickers sells them into involuntary servitude, where immigrants are force to work against their will in harsh working conditions. Labor trafficking has become an important issue to the U.S. presidencial race because illegal immigration has result in an increase of involuntary servitude in the United States.
In addition to legislation on human trafficking, criminal justice systems must turn their attention to educating law enforcement officers about the nature and extent of trafficking, while also equipping them with the tools essential to handling these cases. Adequate training is necessary for law enforcement to understand the intricacies of trafficking cases and how to investigate them properly. Farrell, Owens, and McDevitt (2014) stress the need for such specialized training in order for law enforcement officers to embrace new legislation on trafficking, and to understand how to respond to these sensitive cases. Other criminal justice professionals, such as prosecutors, judges, and court personnel, can also benefit from specialized human trafficking
Utilitarianism will be the first dominant ethical theory to be applied to the topic of human trafficking. First, the argument against human trafficking significantly to examine whether these group of individuals who are accepting services from traffickers have the right to take away human rights from others for forced labor. For example,“ the case of two Filipino doctors who brought a nineteen-year-old Filipina to their home to become a domestic servant and then enslaved her for nineteen years” is a violation of her human rights (ABA Journal; Aug 2015). In other words, these doctor 's actions are unethical in particular by the moral ethical theory that can cause bad consequences to both qualified practitioners and the trafficker. In contrast,
Human trafficking, or trafficking in persons (TIP) or modern day slavery, is a heinous and widespread crime occurring around the world in nearly every society. Most people often thought slavery was part of the past; however, human slavery is part of our current society and has been an on-going issue around the world. Human trafficking is a type of slavery that involves forced or bonded labour, sexual servitude, child labour, or involuntary servitude all over the world. It is important to note that sex trafficking contributes to more than half of human trafficking and most of these victims are women and young girls. This modern day slavery can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime (Ton, 2012).This literature review of documents and reports
“Noy Thrupkaew: Human Trafficking is all Around You: This is how it Works” and “Slavery in the fields” both have a common theme. Both of these stories make the claim that human trafficking is widespread across a spectrum of industries and that consumers are fueling the problem. However, this subject is far more complicated than one can see. The first piece brings attention to the gruesome circumstances of human trafficking victims. The second piece is very loose in what it interprets as human trafficking.
