In the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks, The Department of Homeland Security was created to deal with terrorism threats to national security. The Anti-Terrorism plan brought forth by the department of Homeland security is split into 9 main components. A brief overview of each components is discussed. Finally the plan is looked at as a whole, evaluating how well each component leads to a unified anti-terrorism plan. The Department of Homeland Security provides biological security through bio preparedness and rapid response to biological attacks. Keeping up to date with current and future biological threats through studies and tests, the department of homeland security keeps constant surveillance on potential biological concerns. All this information, including proper countermeasures to pressing biological concerns, is shared with state and local law enforcement. Prepared through a series of biodefence drills, they will assist with preventing or controlling biological attacks within their jurisdiction. Each component of their anti-terrorism plan deals heavily in providing information on each component to the proper authorities who will work directly on preventing terrorist attacks and responding to attacks that do get through. They should of delegated the work to the 22 other agencies and seen what worked best for the overall department. The pressure of the recent attack on the United States put the agency under the microscope of the nation because everyone was on high alert. While this is a more recent policy to be proposed, it does show that the policies that fail do not always have to be from the past. There were a few reasons for this policy not being successful. In comparison to the USA PATRIOT Act, which was rapidly enacted due to the events of September 11, 2001, the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2022 had more time to be looked over and analyzed, there were not any events that had occurred to push the bill into law.
