For my second concert report, I went to see South Alabama’s Flute Choir and Celtic Crue perform in the Spring Concert. The USA Flute Choir performed a total of six pieces and the Celtic Crue performed four short pieces of Irish tradition. The concert was on Thursday March 30, 2017 at 7:30 pm in the Laidlaw Recital Hall. The first piece was A Gaelic Offering by Catherine McMichael and consisted of two movements. This piece was a flute quartet in the first movement, but in the second movement one performer switched to a piccolo. Other than that, both pieces sounded similar. They started with a solo flute, then slowly the other three began to accompany her to create a harmonizing sound. The second piece, Flutes in the Garden, was composed of four movements. The flute trio started the first movement, Madonna Lilies with a somber presence with the flutes. The piece then starts to create a sense of panic as the use of decrescendo and crescendo and changing meter sounds like the piece is spiraling. …show more content…
This piece had such a fast tempo to create a haste feeling. The accelerando of the flutes reminded me of when Tom would chase Jerry with the music speeding up when Tom would get closer. The music crescendos until it could not go higher, then it goes higher. Finally, it stutters briefly before restarting its accent. Next, they performed Arrival of the Queen of Sheba from the piece Solomon. They performed this piece with the use of bass flutes, flutes and piccolo. The uplifting melody and fast tempo expresses a feeling of joy. The piece has a strong harmony throughout, but also a sense of
I had the opportunity this week to watch the concert “Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.” The performance was on November 17, 2015. This concert was preformed very well. Parts of the concert were very calm and sincere, while others were upbeat and fun. While at the concert three musical numbers stuck out to me.
The brass section plays powerfully blows out the melody with such grace. The strings play in a pattern that anticipates action to be quickly passed in a hurry. They sound that they end up portraying is a serious manner of dedication. This song had a new instrument that I have never heard in other numbers and it is the tubular bells. The tubular bells complimented the
The melodies in The Magic Flute always linger on hours after I have listened to them. What is more, the conductor of the version I listened to, Riccardo Muti and the Wiener Philharmoniker excellently executed performance of this beautiful, masterful work. Lastly, The Magic Flute contains one of my favourite arias ever written because of how dramatic it is but more importantly how technically demanding it is and it is none other than the famous Queen of the Night aria (translated to English), ‘Hell’s Vengeance Boils In My Heart’ and specifically the version sung by Edita
The piece included a slow tempo. I am not quite sure, but I believe I heard Merry-Go-Round played by one of the trumpet players. The ending to the piece had a continuous pattern of crescendos and pauses. Consequently, the audience became confused because they didn’t know when it was over. I thought it was a humorous way to “include” the audience.
The dances that occurred, and the flutes that were played are
The introduction of the piece is the same as that of “The Raiders March”, but with strings playing in the background. The A melody begins with the trumpet as the strings fade out (0:07). The first minute and a half of the song is played the same as that of “The Raiders March”, though due to differing sound equalization, some parts stick out more or less than they do in the original. For example, in the third repetition of the A melody, one can more clearly hear the xylophone accompanying the melody here than in “The Raiders March”. The piece begins to differ more significantly after the break following the third repetition of the A melody when the piece modulates down a half step instead of up like in the original (1:37).
There were several loud and intense parts in this piece, but there were also quiet and suspenseful parts. This piece has a quick tempo, with a few slow
The dynamics for “Caravan” is mostly mezzo forte, and there does include sections of the song where the trumpet builds up and is full forte. The Tempo of this song is 118 BPM metronomes and in the key of C Major. A soundscape of unprecedented exoticism is the texture of this piece that invokes feral
After that, there is a peaceful and gentle viola solo performance. The music makes me image that the one who escapes in nature see some beautiful senses, which makes him stop running. The second movement is entitled “Procession of pilgrims singing the evening prayer.” In this movement, all the instrument played in a perfectly harmony. The melody of violin is elegant and smooth; at the meanwhile, the sound of cello integrates in to the music, which makes the music not too dry and light.
The piece I will reanalyze is the Prelude from Bach’s Suite No. 1 in G major, which was the most representative pieces of baroque music, and it was played with cello as the solo instrument. This prelude is recognized as one of the best-known movement from the entire suites, and it is widely adopted into many modern films and commercials, for example, movies like How Not to Disappear Completely, Irrational Man, and TV series like Parenthood all cited the prelude as their soundtracks (Johann, n.d.). With the familiarity and the knowledge acquired through this semester, I will appreciate this brilliant piece of music in terms of four aspects, that are the instrument, background, composer, and the musical techniques. First, instrument.
The varied witches’ dance is imitated by bassoons, horn punctuations that are followed by the low string section with a mezzo-piano dynamic and in the brass section the chant of Dies irae (Kamien, 2014: 299). The fugue theme of the witches’ dance is introduction by the lower strings and then imitated
It started off pretty slow and peaceful, and the audience became relaxed. It began to increase in speed, and all of sudden the percussion came out in full force. It woke the whole audience up and brought life back to orchestra, who had begun to lose energy. It was funny when the violinists stop playing and it got quiet, and then they picked back up again, and stopped. The audience was so confused.
Sean Driscoll is the performer of the Two Elizabethan Lute Pieces. He is an extraordinary artist that makes me feel like I know every word for each note he is playing. The second piece is “The Most Sacred Queen Elizabeth, Her Galliard,” is a light and stately piece that makes
First of all, the piece is quite interesting as a prelude – an introductory piece of music as it start off with dynamic and vibrant sounds that include the whole ensemble. This piece is structured as a three-part or ternary form which consists of ABA’ form. The idea of this piece is mainly act as an introductory of a story because this piece is only an excerpt from a bigger orchestral performance. From what I have heard, the solo performance is mainly comprise of the woodwind instruments in part B that indicated the slight sign of relief and calmness. The piece has a lot of variation where the composer include different timbres and dynamics such as the high dynamic structure during the first and the last part with the associating crashes of cymbals.
Piano and violins are in line with each other while the horn steadily plays offbeat in the ' 'though she feels as if she 's in a play. Through out the song, both string and horns come in without us noticing until the mood
