Down syndrome is a condition which extra genetic material slows down the way in which an individual develops, both physically and mentally. As stated by the NHS; each individual with down syndrome is affected differently and can vary, some may need a lot of medical assistance whereas others may lead a normal healthy lifestyle but share similar characteristics. Delayed development: All service users with down syndrome has some degree of learning difficulty and delayed development, however, this varies between each individual. Having down syndrome they may experience some health problems which may effect them in every day life. However yet again each individual is different some may have more health problems than others.
Many people are supported in their homes by people who work along side the health and social care service such as social workers,nursers ,doctor and care givers or they may get support from their family members and friends. An elderly person may choose to stay in their own homes instead of a residential care home while seeking help and support from others,however this can lead to potential opportunities for abuse happening to the person who Is being looked after. When an individual is getting support at home by a carer, the individual being cared for is vulnerable and defenseless and therefor this makes them a target for abuse,another example is abuse by strangers,when an elderly person lives alone they are at risk of people calling at the door and then gaining access to their homes,they may steal items from them or mistreat them or cause intimidation. A person who is vulnerable and living alone are at risk of physical and sexual because there is no one there to stop this abuse from happening.
If you suspect abuse you must record what has lead to this suspicion, find out any information you can in order to help determine if this is the truth, you must inform other carers, your manager, the individuals care manager and the relevant authorities to ensure that this suspicion to be investigated as soon as possible. For example, an individual I care for with learning disabilities and epilepsy made a phone call to the organisation I work in around 10pm and informed me that she was going out, as it is her right to chose when and where she goes I could not tell her she could not do so, instead I asked where she was going, she informed me she was going to a party at a friends house, I then tried to obtain information about where her friends

The two key issues that will be looked at in this assignment will be planning, preparing and reviewing for the child to settling into the setting. 7 / D.P7: Explain how different procedures maintain health and safety in a selected health or social care setting Maintaining health and safety in health and social care is extremely important to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all their service users as well as other individuals service providers may come in contact with in the setting. There are several procedures that help to maintain this health and safety however they can all vary between settings for example, health and safety procedures will be slightly different and more focused on certain areas in hospitals and especially in paediatric ward compared to in drop-in centres where the needs and risk to service users are slightly different. Some of the procedures used in health and social care to maintain health and safety include; infection control and prevention, safe moving and handling of equipment and individuals, food preparation and storage, storage and administration of medication and storage and disposal of hazardous substances.
There are currently 107 residents in St Mary 's Drumcar healthcare facility. It also has many community based centres around the locality. St. Mary 's is part of Saint John of God Hospitaller Ministries. The Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God is an international Catholic organisation which has over 300 hospitals and centres which provide health and social care in 53 countries worldwide. The driver of Unit 1 advised that one of the witnesses waved her to come out the intersection. The driver of Unit 1 advised the that she didn't see Unit 2 traveling southbound in the fast lane. The driver of Unit 2 advised that she was traveling southbound on George Wallace Drive when the driver of Unit 1 pulled out in front of her. Both drivers advised that they didn't see each other. Mallarie Mosley and Benjamin Hicks were the two witnesses on scene.
It was a satisfying moment as a nursing student to not be afraid and know how to provide safe and preventative care to reduce the risks for falls, such as having my clinical instructor, a colleague and myself to help a client that has fragile bones and was confused because of their medical diagnosis. As well, we can provide proper prevention and infection control by applying correct hygiene care after assisting a client with an infection such as clostridium difficile. What did not go well after this experience is I found out that this client had clostridium difficile and at first, I was scared that now I am at risk and will acquire this infection. Instead, I looked at it as I am overcoming my fear of the different infections and diseases I will be exposed to as a nurse and that is why learning how to perform proper hygiene is very important. This bad thought turned into a learning curve and that nothing will make me not provide safe and effective care to any client.
When dealing with substances, they will have a potential hazard which can affect the health care setting. The substance can be a potential hazard in the residential care home as there is clinical waste and cleaning products. As the nurse and the staff member will have to make sure that the cleaning products is locked in a room so that the visitors and the residents won 't be able to go in and touch the chemical products. There is a law called COSHH Regulation 2005, which stand for Control Of Substance Hazardous to Health regulation 2005. COSHH is when the hazardous substance have to be handled in a right way and it has to be stored in a minimise risk which is present.
Hi, Tara! This will be an excellent idea for Ingrid to keep a calendar or tracker to ensure she is making her appointments and taking her medication as prescribed on time. Ingrid will need some financial assistance in order not to be caught up in the same situation as before not being able to get her medication due to financial offsets. Tara culture does play a significant role in different people lives because of the way they were raised and family values that they inherit at a young age. Ingrid should also understand that with her diagnosis it is critical that she try and keep it under control with her medication especially having children in the home.
