University Honors Personal Statement

I am pleased to submit my application to the University Honors Program. I am someone who thrives educationally in a smaller, close-knit community and I believe that the UHP can offer that to me. I am excited to become a part of a smaller population of learners within the larger university with seminar-sized classes that would allow for more interactive discussions and in-depth learning. I would also like the challenging yet fascinating curriculum that would be offered in this program, as it would better prepare me for my career as well as graduate school. I believe that the University Honors Program would be a wonderful opportunity for me both educationally as well as intellectually. Working with exceptional faculty and other like-minded students in a more intimate setting would allow me to grow as a person and not just as a student.
The unique challenges offered by your Honors Program would be a welcome environment for me as I continue my studies at the collegiate level. I am one who can contribute more positively in a smaller setting, and I believe that not only would this program benefit me, but I would also be a benefit for it. I have always been drawn to how things worked, especially when it involved computers, and I knew that one day my passion would become my career. I have had several unique experiences that have fostered my growth in this field, from interning for several summers for my high school’s IT department to working as a Sensei at Code Ninjas my senior year. Both experiences have helped me develop a unique skill set with my chosen Computer Science major. I learned about how to repair computers on one end and coding on the other.
