It’s hard to characterize anything with just one word, especially for a university that offers as many opportunities as the University of Chicago does. However, my attempt to describe the school would lead to this one word: quirky. Situated in the center of the city, one may expect the university to only be serious and hustle-bustle. While the University of Chicago does have a serious focus on academics, the thought-driven learning community it actually provides is perfect for a problem-solver like me. Everything about the University of Chicago curriculum breathes freedom, and this is in no small part due to the Core. I have always believed that the best way to learn is through personal, hands-on experiences, and this is the type of mindset that the Core provides. Instead of focusing on the grades and achievement-based progress, the Core is set up so students can focus on the actual learning that is accomplished. By providing a common foundation for all students, the Core also encourages discussion …show more content…
Our society is facing increasingly complex medical issues, and the physicians of the future must be well versed in both scientific and humanistic knowledge. As a student who has ventured into many advanced topics in my high school career, the variety and flexibility of Core courses allows me to further explore my interests in the liberal arts and add to my humanistic knowledge. The fascinating part of learning is the culmination of different subjects into one problem, and the Core allows for such synthesis. There are so many courses in Core that are applicable in the field of medicine, and I am in awe at the prospect of being able to use both statistical distributions and transcultural differing perspectives in my medical career in order to come up with the correct

“Choosing a college is not easy; the administration should stop implying that it should be.”- Patricia McGuire, President, Trinity Washington University. Every person who has attended a college in lifetime knows this. Although, Annie’s idea has a potential of revolutionizing the Education industry
After listening to the wisdom of Husky, one can recognize that he offers valuable insights, but also provides some inaccurate information regarding academic affairs in community college. Beginning with the valuable information, he is correct when he states that the cost of community college, in both tuition and price-per-credit, is significantly lower than a four-year institution. He is also partly correct about the curriculum. For students enrolled with the intention of transferring to a four-year institution, general education courses in the liberal arts are offered that will transfer to their desired school. He explains that these liberal arts courses are generally smaller than those offered at larger schools, and provide for more interaction with the instructor – both claims are true.
The university is known for its engineering and agriculture programs (Iowa State University History, 2006). Because the departments are so spread out and there are varying levels of administration the prestige will not be shared universally between all. One department will have great prestige and rankings, and because they do not work directly with another department, the feelings will not be shared mutually. This also could speak to the student’s they serve on campus. They have varying experiences, because each department has a different culture.
I see myself being an engaged member of the WCU and Brinson Honors College community by being involved in community service opportunities, becoming a member of leadership organizations, and taking advantage of opportunities to study and serve in a different country or to participate in undergraduate studies. I plan to be engaged in the WCU community by being involved in all that I can be involved in. Specifically, I hope to become involved in at least one of the faith-based groups on campus, such as the Baptist Student Fellowship at WCU or the Campus Crusade for Christ. Becoming involved in faith-based organizations is important to me and will allow me to love God and love people better by learning more about God and participating in service projects that will share his love and truth. Additionally, I want to join a local Church family, where I hope to serve in various aspects of the Church, especially those that involve children, something that I am passionate about.
As a prospective member of the Masters of Arts in History program at Liberty University I hope to accomplish several things. I am currently serving as a high school history teacher and this program will benefit both my students and myself alike in the foreseeable future. This includes reaching the goals of earning my master’s degree which will result in a higher level of professional knowledge in my content area, while increasing my income simultaneously. This is not the only positive factor, Liberty’s program will also contribute directly to growth in regards to my relationship with Jesus Christ.
This is what I love about the university; its emphasis on liberal arts through the Core will broaden my interests and prompt me to engage in new ways of thinking, not with the standard textbook method, but through exposure to Socratic seminars, fascinating discussions, and fieldwork. The Core will give my mind plenty of food for thought, so that it can thrive in the intellectual atmosphere that characterizes the University of
I come from a lower, middle class family. Both of my parents are employed full time but do not make enough income to supply the $20,000 it takes to attend Missouri State. They have always encouraged me to want more for myself, both in my career and in my life in general. Although I am still deciding on a major, I know that I want to make enough money to live comfortably and be able to provide for my family.
I have recently completed my master degree in business and health management from Davenport University. I decided to explore my opportunity and to apply what I have learned to real world. My first step is to establish my own distributing company in Sweden. I thought about distributing sleep apnea devices, and perform sleep studies. During my Doctorate program I was involved in sleep medicine, and I have invented my own sleep apnea device, and it is ready to be marketed it.
The heart of New York City is New York University. By joining the network of NYU, I will be able to study at an institution that has a long tradition of academic excellence among private universities in the United States. Additionally, I will be able to be part of an internationally recognized learning network with locations all across the globe. It would be a pleasure to study at a globally recognized university. A friend of mine who is a recent graduate from NYU College of Nursing has praised the program and conveyed to me a very positive experience.

As I think of the University of Mississippi, the aspect that most impresses me, and is an addition to my desire to immerse myself in this prominent learning community is the University's outstanding resources. I am very attracted to the opportunity to explore and learn at the University of Mississippi's science departments. Science has been my academic passion ever since I entered middle school. Since then, I have always wanted to get into the medical field to become a neurologist. I believe the brain is a black box with endless mysteries waiting to be explored.
All along, I have managed to maintain the principles of ethics and integrity, a strong sense of purpose, and morality, which binds me rigidly. Appointment as student leader in all stages of my school and college life has presented me with opportunity to interact with people, develop organizational and communication skills. My involvement with speech, debate and sports has made me more than just an academic person In the pursuit of excellence and with a passion to reach the highest skills in my discipline, I look upon University of Texas, Arlington a springboard to accomplish my dreams. This esteemed institution can serve as a ladder and enable me to achieve higher aims by providing me the most contemporary input and exposure.
Plenary Keynote “On the Idea of a Christian College” - Dr. Timothy Larsen (8:30 session) “Knowledge is an end in and of itself” In this discussion, Dr. Timothy Larsen discussed the calling and the mission of a Christian liberal arts college and how a college like Northwestern allows us as students to connect our faith, purpose, intellect, and service. Throughout the speech, Larsen argued against the critics who believe that a liberal arts education is worthless and that students who attend such colleges are “being scammed” because they are taught things that they will never otherwise use in their careers and/or life. These critics of a liberal arts education do not believe there is a utility-maximizing point for the widened array of required subject study offered at a liberal arts college.
My interest for The University of Texas derives from my interest in the Architecture program. The past summer I had the opportunity to participate in the Architecture Academy at the University of Texas and the overall experience solidified my interest in Architecture and the overall University. I appreciated the sense of being able to have a small college in a rather large school. I enjoyed exploring Austin’s culture and I was drawn to the art and music of the City.
