The educational industry is comprised of elementary, secondary, postsecondary and training institutions. Each one of these sectors have their own level of competition, as well as social and economic impact that determines it current positioning. All postsecondary institutions (also referred, as higher educational institutions) seem to offer the same type of services, with the same set up fundamentals. Thus, it makes it a little challenging to estimate the universities’ current positioning as a company. Yet, this challenge has allowed higher educational institutions to continually update and improve their programs and academic structure. The demand of exceptional faculty and staff are all contributing factors to the industry current positioning. Positioning helps clients to identify the company and decipher if they would want to invest and/or partake of the distinct services offered. Therefore, it becomes essential for universities to incorporate numerous diverse programs into its institution; and implement unique structures to disseminate information. The more an institution is willing to offer, the better it is for them to draw more students and factor in the cost into its tuition. Students are willing to pay more to attend s prestigious college, such as Harvard and MIT, because they know that level of education is top-notched, and the prospect of getting a high-paying career, is …show more content…

The author of this essay, Marty Nemko, has worked in both career and educational counseling, as well as writing as a columnist. His has firsthand experience with not only university presidents, but also a wide range of the students. Knowing he’s worked with the area he is writing about, may led some credibility to his ethos. However, he may have a personal stake in writing this piece because he has written several books concerning educational psychology and its related issues. He even directly says in this essay “…data I used for my book, How to Get an Ivy League Education at a State University.”
The Franklin College mission statement states, “A Franklin College education fosters independent thinking, innovation, leadership and action for ever-changing professions and a globally connected world.” I believe in my first semester here at Franklin College, the mission statement has been well implemented into my curriculum. I can think back on numerous occasions while in class many of my professors would give us critical thinking on how we, as an individual, see the world which coincides with the independent thinking aspect of the mission statement. I also believe the vision statement also plays a role in the overall mission statement of Franklin College.
My choice of college would be Stone Brook University! Why? Well is because it's in a suburban area that reminds me that I'm still home and most of all it is a one hour drive from where I live(Obviously the university it is located in Stony Brook). The college itself is a public institution with an undergraduate enrollment of 16,480 students. The college was founded in 1957 and it is considered as one of the top best colleges, ranking as #89 in the class of National Universities Ranking.
The university becomes about how many students can we enroll and graduate. It does not matter how they leave. Our students become a commodity. To say that TA&T is a business causes us to look at our school strictly through as economic lens, and this produces students, faculty and administration that view education as a form of technical training and a students skills only matter if they can be branded, commodified and traded. This is why the School of Arts and Sciences are overlooked, TA&T, and the administration can make more money when they invest in STEM.
Brent Staple’s essay "Why Colleges Shower Their Students with A's" had various elements that helped provided evidence and persuade the readers. The first thing I noticed when reading this essay was the comparison between the marketplace and college. This comparison helps to develop Staple’s argument because it explains something that is unfamiliar by comparing it to something that is more familiar. I can assume that the target readers were business men and women. Since I am unfamiliar with some business terms, I found that this essay explained something that was unfamiliar with something else that was unfamiliar.

College was always one of my biggest goals and something i do not plan on giving up on not even with the thought I possibly will be in debt during or after i get my college diploma. But this isn't the same situation for other young adults throughout the US, a lot of young adults don't even dream of college because of student debt. The thought of it alone almost made me feel like it’s something impossible. In this image unfortunately, I see my future and the future of a lot of my peers and family members .

The land grant universities in the United States have a rich history of public service, practical research, teaching and outreaching for ordinary citizens. The success in this system over decades working hard to meet the communities’ needs in the United States and the world at large did not help to avoid some challenges. The land grant universities are facing many challenges and these challenges will continue within the next five to twenty five years, such as the climate changing and its impact on agricultural productivity, the engagement with the community, and the increase of professors and undergraduate students’ ages in the land grant universities. One of the most important challenges that faced land grant universities is that the global
As a member of a college student, tuition inflation rate is one of the most important factors I need to consider. This is because sometimes college or university can be too costly compared to what they have to offer. Since college is very expensive, knowing the trend of how the tuition inflation will manifest itself, allows the student to make the right decision when deciding which college to go to. Also, because the tuition inflation rate can increase or decrease, knowing what to expect will definitely help a student in the long run. Such as, how much money need to save for college tuition, if the student could afford the school their dream of attending, and when they need to transfer.
A liberal education is the main goal of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh through the University Studies Program (USP), which allows students to become educated in all areas of study, ultimately preparing them for all the challenges and experiences life can have. Sustainability and the environment are two very important issues on campus, and because of that central focus, there are countless ways the efforts of the University are visible. After only being on campus for three weeks, I have learned countless things about myself as well as my education, and I have already seen remarkable efforts to preserve the environment all across campus, particularly in Sage Hall. The conversations from class have solidified my choice in choosing to attend
The various changes in higher education institutions are in keeping with the network philosophy approaches of the 21st century. No longer are most educational institutions operating in isolation, rather, some are linked to other institutions such as colleges of technology and arts where students can get practical training. This is coupled with the ever increasing business approach, corporate governance, and managerial agenda have largely redefined the roles of various internal and external stakeholders in the leadership structure of higher education institutions and ultimately impact program evaluation (Leisyte and Dee, 2012). There no question if higher education institutions are changing, the argument for, and the physical, procedural,
In our everyday life, we come across different types of people, situations, events, and environments. The interactions between the individuals depend on implicit under- standing of relationship across society. This implicit understanding between individ- uals is based on the confidence that the individuals can gather and emanate during the relationships, the personal and professional connections bonding the individuals, societies, cultures, and a host of other factors. When I meet a new car mechanic, I feel confident to give him the responsibilities of repairing my car based on my personal interactions or hunch about his abilities, his credentials, the company he represents, and a host of other factors. In other words, my decision to ask for
