Larrysa McDonald Ms Gregory Missouri History 17 October 2017 Missouri Valley College Missouri Valley College is a liberal arts college that is located in Marshall, MO. This college is located on a 150 acre campus and is over a hundred years old! The college was started and founded by the Presbyterian church in 1899. The entire student body is around 1,400 with over 30 different majors available. The college also offers a variety of extracurricular activities including sports teams,clubs, student government, and musical opportunities.
In San Francisco on April 18, 1906 at about 5:13 am a HUGE earthquake hit recorded as a 7.7-7.9 . Damaging buildings from left to right. Many poorly structured buildings collapsed causing 500 million dollars in total damage (1906 money) translated to about 8.2 billion dollars today. It was recorded that most buildings immediately caught fire which trapped the victims, about 25,000 buildings were burnt down from the fire, a total of about 490 blocks.At around 8:14 a Major aftershock hit making even more damaged building collapse. The earthquake and fires in San Francisco were recorded to be the worst natural disaster in U.S. history.
Till this day parts of the city are still in ruins. Hurricane Katrina caused $81 billion in property damage. It is estimated that the total economic impact in Louisiana and Mississippi exceeded $150 billion. Katrina earned the title of being the costliest hurricane ever in United States history. Hurricane Katrina revealed and verified the link among race, place and vulnerability within groups.
The city of Lakeville consists of over 36 square miles of land and 1.7 square miles of water. The city of Shawnee is deeply rooted in the history of Kansas, and even that of the United States of America. With the name that is connected to the Indian tribe known as the Shawnee, and how the area was connected to the frontier days of our history, the city of Shawnee is a living historical site. In this paper I will discuss the history and current state of Shawnee, the connection to the four traditional public administration values, and provide an overview on important policy changes from the last fifteen years. Shawnee is a vibrant and successful community that has excelled in the national spotlight for many years. Free speech, student engagement, critical information dissemination and investigation are all roles of a student newspaper on a college campus. Most college campuses are fortunate enough to have a student run paper, but The University of Wisconsin-Madison is the only college campus in the country to have two daily newspapers each ranked in the top 50. The amount of property that was damaged by hurricane Harvey was vast. Strong winds are what people think of when they think of a hurricane. The winds from Harvey were said to have reached 130 mph. That was enough for it to be classified as a category 4 storm. The strong winds spread debris across the land scape of Texas as it ripped through the structures destroying anything in its direct path.
Then it extended to Mexico and Costa Rica with several weeks of rainfall. It then started to form floods. 32 bridges were damaged and roads in 174 locations, while 1,396 homes were damaged, killing seven people. In total 50,000 people to leave their homes and there were 60 deaths. Another natural disaster was the 1991 Limon earthquake.
From the day he had his leg amputated to the day he passed away Terry Fox dedicated his life to the Marathon of Hope.
