The article “From outside, in,” by Barbara Mellix reveals the difficulties among the black ethnicity to differentiate between two diverse but similar languages. One is “black English”, which is comfortable to her while speaking with her family and community and the other is “standard English”, generally used while talking in public with strangers and work.
Under the year-round calendar, it may be more difficult to schedule activities such as sports, or band, due to the constant schooling, and frequent breaks. According to the National Education Association, “... extracurricular activities, like sports and band, may be more difficult under the year-round schedule” (Text 2,2). This text states that scheduling may be difficult for some activities under the year-round calendar; however, that may not always be the case. “The Chase” is about an adult chasing some kids, but Annie Dillard makes the story transition from throwing snowballs to “wanting the glory to last forever” and how the excitement of life at one moment can affect someone in the future to show that the excitement of life will always be there even when one is no longer a kid. The story starts with a group of friends, imagining how a game of football goes and continues with the encounter of a stranger. From throwing snowballs at his car to him chasing them till they couldn’t run anymore. The whole experience will change the way she looks at adults.
“Slower than the Rest” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic story about a boy named Leo who is slower than the rest finds a turtle and named it Charlie. In the beginning, Leo and his family are driving in the car and find a turtle by the side of the road. Leo jumps out of the car to get the turtle, and then Leo names the turtle Charlie.Then when Leo gets home he plays with Charlie and they become best friends. Soon, Leo takes Charlie to school for his presentation about wildfires. He explains how deer can make it out because they're quick but turtles aren't. In the end, Leo is in the cafeteria to see who won the award for best wildfire presentation. Then when Leo isn't paying attention his name gets called up to the stage. Then he figures out that
When one first reads “The Chase” by Annie Dillard they are enjoying a childhood tale taking place in the heart of the winter where Dillard creates a detailed play by play action of an event that contains a great message while also incorporating different tones that corresponds to the pace of the story. An important aspect to this short story is the theme of never giving up and giving “all or nothing.” The reader can see this theme from the beginning where Dillard talks about her experience of playing football with the guys. “It was all or nothing, if you hesitated in fear you would miss and get hurt” (Dillard 114). I have always been a particularly musical person. When I was younger, I wanted to become a singer when I grew up, but upon joining the choir in elementary I realized I did not have the talent for singing that I thought I had. Continually singing off key and never sounding as good as my peers did, I decided to confine myself to singing at home where only my family could hear me. Despite this revelation that I was, in fact, a terrible singer, I still wanted to participate in some type of musical performance and decided to join the band in middle school. After trying out various different instruments, I settled on the flute and quickly fell in love.
Students never have a complete experience except on the installment plan (Gatto, part I, pars 11). I received flashbacks from my childhood, when I knew there could have been additional work to do before the bell rang. I always ended up being swept away into a completely different environment to advance skills in a random field of knowledge. To counter my agreement, the set class times did help in my erudition to what studies I relished more and the areas which I felt were unbearable. This determined my time management based on interests outside of school. Personally, I enjoyed a broad range of classes which invoked me into joining intellectual groups. Such as Knowledge Bowl, Chess Club, Student Council, Mathletes, and Theater.
At Lampasas High School I show leadership in many ways, like volunteering to answer questions or be the example in class, being part of the National Honor Society, and being a student athlete. I am also in the Gear Up Leadership program at Lampasas High School, where I am pushed to set the best example for others, I am challenged to promote a college and career oriented future. I believe being a good role model is one of the best ways to show leadership. This past year I was chosen by staff at my school for demonstrating leadership, citizenship, and character in my school and my community, to attend American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State. For my Capstone Project, I chose the career as physician assistant. I worked hard throughout the year to make sure I make a good grade on the Capstone Project. I job shadowed at D.D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in the pain management unit. I spent most of the time observing my mentor while she performed check-ups on her patients. Also, I saw my mentor give injections to patients to help with pain.
Allocating time for your personal agenda is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It is proven that creating time for yourself will increase your happiness. This will help you function better throughout the day, and will enable a student to do things he/she pleases to do, example read a book. Better time management will allow a student to join clubs or activities of their choosing, and not just join the ones which improve marks. Studies have shown that students with more time on their hands will join a club of their choosing rather than the ones that so the most benefit with the least amount of effort. Scheduling in schools are critical for a day to run smoothly. Elementary schools should ensure students are constantly monitored throughout the day. This can cause teachers and staff to lose crucial planning time, but student safety is always top priority. Using the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) Standards building leaders will know how to handle implications and make adjustments when scheduling becomes an issue in the school building.
Time management has been one of the most substantial hurdles of my scholastic and professional career. Many of us waste our time on things that are neither important nor necessary, instead of using that time for something of that is meaningful. To capitalize on the use of time management strategies and reach my Doctoral Business Administration (DBA) program goals. I will execute two specific time management strategies, for example, accessing and planning a weekly schedule while adjusting my daily schedule. Time management will help me maximize the use of my time and reach my ultimate DBA goals of completing each assignment.
It isn’t all fun and games, but take note of where you stumble or your motivation dips- you can then come up with a solution to prevent that from becoming an issue again. You may see a pattern emerge, which allows you to arrange your schedule as required. No matter what your mind tells you, stick to the schedule, because you created it for a reason.
Extracurricular activities can range from a variety of things such as sports, clubs, or hobbies that are participated in by a group of peers. Activities like these have many perks but also may contain cons depending on the person and how much effort they are willing to put in to what they do. Overall students that participate in extracurricular activities will have a better outlook in real world situations than students who don 't participate in anything.
