Upton Sinclairs's The Jungle

Summary: The Jungle by Upton Sinclair begins with Jurgis’s and Ona’s wedding day at Chicago’s meat packing building. The beginning of the book is based on flashbacks for the couple, such as from when they meet in Lithuania to deciding to move to the United States in hopes of a better life. Not only does the newly wed couple decide to go but other family members decide to go too.

I have a 1st edition copy of "The Jungle" written by Upton Sinclair and published by Doubleday & Page in 1906. The book binding is very solid. The hard cover is in good shape with some wear on the white detailing on the cover and spine.

Cadence Sinclair goes to her family 's private island every summer, and is reunited with her two cousins, Mirren and Johnny, and their friend, Gat. Together, they earned the title, the liars. During summer fourteen, Cadence and Gats relationship takes off, and they become very close, so naturally she cannot wait to see him again the next summer. After cadence’s dad leaves her and her mom, she remains hopeful for summer fifteen, but when she arrives, she finds out that Gat has a girlfriend. Summer fifteen was also when her accident happened.

Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an American classic literature novel that was written by Mark Twain and published in the United Kingdom in 1884 before debuting in the United States in 1885. The novel is a sequel to the Mark Twain 's Adventures of Tom Sawyer and it has Huckleberry Finn or "Huck" as the main character narrating his ordeal in the first person. The plot setting is Mississippi River in the southern United States. The novel is an attempt to illustrate universal truths of racism and the societal struggle in humanization.

Upton Sinclair displays his dexterous writing ability in one of his most widely familiar books “The Jungle”. Throughout this unique masterpiece Sinclair broadcast multiple conditions which one today would not know to judge from its content as a horror or jest. He goes about this by storytelling the life of an immigrant family. These conditions vary from poor living setups to the stomach turning health violations undertook by the meat industry. Overall imposing his theory that the heavily sold illusion of the american dream wasn’t at all what it was made out to be.

What does one do when their family is struggling? In the novel The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Jurgis provides not only for his family, but for anyone in need during hardship. He works hard so no one else has to and everyone can be happy. Even when a crisis comes up he finds a way. He takes care of the ones he loves and leaves no one out.

While Upton Sinclair was writing what was soon to be a bestseller and a book that is still used in literature classes to this day, he kept in mind that he wanted to portray the exploited lives of workers for the meatpacking industries. He really emphasized that they were substantially underpaid for the harsh working conditions they were put in. What the public emphasized on was how the meat was being treated, this caused an uproar throughout the country. It was never Sinclair’s goal to muck rack and expose what the meatpacking industries were doing. Now to this day Sinclair’s, The Jungle, is known for being a classic muckraking tale.

The ending of a story will communicate an author’s ideals and may reveal consequences of previous actions. The Wild Wood by Charles de Lint and Ursula Le Guin’s short story “The Bones of the Earth” are stories that both culminate in the saving of a population from a force of destruction, however several differences between them can be found in spite of both authors attempts at illustrating ideals of dying and rebirth as a form of healing and rescue. In both fantasy stories, the ending results in the rescue of a population from a destructive force and it is in this way that they are similar. The difference between the rescues is the how, in that the authors use contrasting ideas of death and rebirth as a means to accomplish the final result.

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, a book written by Mark Twain, has been a controversial book ever since it's release in 1885. The classic American canon is about a young white boy who ran away from his alcoholic father, faked his own death, and went on a journey where he met a runaway slave seeking for freedom, and together on a raft, they face obstacles, learn more about each other, and encounter new people. However, the book has been controversial ever since its publication due to the multiple use of the word “nigger”; although one can argue that it’s beneficial for helping readers develop both cognitive and non cognitive skills, some may argue that the drawbacks outweigh its benefits. Needless to say, despite the multiple use of the “n-word”

In Into the Woods, through the masterful use of plot, music, and alienation Sondheim made me reflect on the indulgence of the modern world, where everything at our finger tips and the loss of meaningful fulfillment. Sondheim, Into the Woods, used a unique plotline through combining multiple fairytales with the association of the woods, where every hero seeks to wish for contentment.
