INTRODUCTION

Background/Rationale
By the year 2050, it is estimated that earth will be comprising of about 9.5 billion people (Global Population Growth and Urbanization, n.d.). In over four decades, the urgency for urbanization will continue in our planet as overpopulation perseveres and the demand for faster and uninterrupted transportation in increasing. Because of this, the further need to develop sustainable, accident-prone and effective roads and road intersections are top priority.

Nowadays, urbanization have rapidly persevered in many cities and provinces in the Philippines. In the city of Sta. Rosa, motorists have increased due to the modernization of the place. Due to this, traffic volume has significantly increased …show more content…

A number of researchers have studied and suggested solutions for urban transportation issues subsumed with developing countries. Even though a handful of studies have been reported regarding the traffic problems related to urban environment, traffic delays and related issues at the urban road intersections still demands contemplation, taking local issues into consideration. Moreover, idealized models to solve traffic issues that can be implemented in growing urban areas of developing countries are still lacking in the literature.

In this paper, the traffic issues at a burgeoning prominent urban intersection - 420 Balibago Road – San Lorenzo Road is studied. Field studies on traffic volume count, pedestrian traffic and public transport bus traffic within the study area is to be carried out to establish the spatial model of commutation at the intersection.

There are many problems that can occur at signalized intersection. Problems could be specific to an individual intersection, occur along a section of road with successive signalized intersections, or be a systemic problem throughout a …show more content…
