He is, of course, most famous for his painting, “Starry Night.” Van Gogh was known to be “highly emotional, lacking self-confidence, and struggling with his identity and direction” (“Van Gogh Gallery”). When he finally decided to pursue art, he had already endured many hardships. His younger brother Theo supported him financially, and the two kept correspondence by letter. His early works contain few signs of vivid color that distinguished his later works.
I know that The Art Institute is a well-known and well-respected school with great teachers who can help me improve and expand my knowledge on photography. I know some fields of art are really hard to get into after college, so I really want a good education so that I will eventually be able to establish a great career after college, which I feel this school will be able to provide to me. I'm still learning about photography and I hope to increase my artistic skills and I think that attending this school will be great for me to do so. I work hard in school and photography is something I love and I'm sure that when I start at The Art Institute I won't regret my decision and I will work extremely hard in school that after school I won't have
Vincent Willem van Gogh was a Dutch post-impressionist painter who was very influential on 20th century art. He was born in Groot-Zundert ,Netherlands, 1853. In contrast to the impressionists, Van Gogh’s works were known for portraying symbolic content, formal order, and structure. Post-impressionists believed that color should be independent from the composition’s form and structure to portray emotion and to narrate a story. Post-impressionist continued to use vivid color, thick application of paint, and proper geometric form, but distorted all aspects to express effect.
Vincent Van Gogh once said, “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” * In 1853 a brilliant painter was born in the Netherlands. Little did he know that his journey would influence some of the most emotional and aesthetic paintings the world has ever seen, making it the most important artist from an expression standpoint. Although he is not a traditional historical figure, I would want to meet Vincent Van Gogh. I would settle for just being in the same place as him. I'd look at him and just smile. Maybe if I were lucky enough to be near him I would compliment his work. I'd call his style brilliant and innovative.

As I stretch out across my bed, all ready to turn in for the night. I looked over at one of my many posters in my room. My favorite artist, Vincent Van Gogh, painted the emotional piece The Starry Night. I’ve always admired it because I felt as though I was there with Van Gogh, staring at the night sky. It felt like I had connection with the landscape portion of the artwork because of my photography, the majority of my photos consists of the sky, both day and night, and the world around me.
Gauguin joined Van Gogh in Arles in October of 1888 and unexpectedly left in December of 1888, a reaction motivated Van Gogh's breakdown, where he cut off a piece of his ear with a razor. After his return from the hospital in January, Van Gogh continued working on a painting of the wife of the postmaster Joseph Roulin, Van Gogh actually produced five versions of Madame Roulin each portrait identical except for madame roulin, she shown holding the rope that rocks her newborn daughter's cradle. He envisioned her portrait as the middle painting of a set of three on a wall, her portrait being the best of the three. For Van Gogh, her image was mesmerizing, to him she was the perfect madonna; painted in the most extravagant of hues, Van Gogh was quoted as saying it "sang a lullaby in colors," outlining the important role of rich color in his
He enjoyed the work of Jean-François Miller, whose paintings were pleasant and neat. One of my favorite paintings by Vincent would have to be The Garden of Doctor Gachet. It was done in 1890. It has been said that Gogh painted in several times, but only on his final copy did he make an attempt to stylize the forms and outline the shapes of the plants. The red cottage in the back of the painting makes you wonder who it belongs to and what is in there.
Salvador Dali, the father of surrealism; many things come to mind when you hear this name, but the one thing that really sticks is his creativity. Of the many things that he has done, one of his most famous works is The Persistence of Memory. It consists of a desert-like landscape and clocks melting over hills and dead trees. Who, other than Dali could come up with anything that mind boggling and surreal? And not only does he paint, he also sculpts, writes, and has worked in the film and theater industry.
