This study aims at identifying the types of verbal humor in the animated movie and describe the application of subtitling strategies applied by the translator. The data were taken from the animated movie Zootopia which was released on June 7, 2016. The data were collected using documentation method by applying note taking technique. The theories used for the analysis are the theory of verbal humor proposed by Spanakaki (2007) along with S-P-E-A-K-I-N-G model by Hymes (1972) and the application of subtitling strategy by Gottlieb (2010). The findings of this study show that there are three types of verbal humor found. They are wordplay, allusion, and verbal irony. Whereas, for subtitling strategies that the translator used, it was found seven of ten subtitling strategies applied in the Indonesian subtitling.
