As of the year 2016, there are an estimated 324,118,787 people living in America. 324,118,787 people consider themselves to be Americans and 324,118,787 people have decided that America really is worthy enough to be called home. These people, whether they were born within the country or emigrated from another country, comingle in this melting pot of a nation, sharing grocery stores and hospitals and neighborhoods and all the ideologies that make up American society, and each of these people have their own lives and opinions and personal beliefs. All of these people, all (roughly) 324,118,787 of them, fall under the definition of an American – a person who lives in America, because there is simply no other way to define what an American is when

Americans. Americans are the people of the United States of America. The Americans are the one who makes the united states a country for all who seek a bounteous desirable life. And Americans is the picture definition of America. BUT, that statement is nothing other than an opinion, because ask someone in color, they might say something different, ask someone who native background isn't from America, they might say something different, or ask someone who religious belief is different from Americans belief, they also might say something different.

The question, “What is an American?”, can be defined differently by different people. What makes up an American can be looked at in different ways. However, an American in my opinion comes from textual evidence, defined through many different readings, such as the “Letters from Columbus”, the story of “Olaudah Equiano”, and from “Of Plymouth Plantation”. As it is defined, Americans come from slavery, but at the same time, they also come from freedom. With points from Equiano and Columbus, and also William Bradford, a Puritan, as well as with the constant changes between exploitative colonialism, violence, and the strive for freedom, America is based around both forms of Slavery and the determination for Freedom.

What it means to be an American is that you have the freedom to vote freedom of speech. You have the liberty to be what you want in America no one chooses for you. Also have the liberty to work wherever you want not be someone 's slave. Being American means you don 't have to hide your religion, the color of your skin or your sex. You have the ability to speak what you want.

Patriotism is the dedication; loyalty; devotion; respect; faithful etc. Being a patriot means do whatever it takes to honor your country. Memorial Day is a special day to Americans. It is a day where we come together to pay respect to those who fought so diligently to defend our freedom and allow us to go about our lives as we know them. Memorial Day is often times confused with Veteran’s Day and, while they are both related, Veteran’s Day is a day to acknowledge service men and women still alive today. Memorial Day is a day that many observed back in their day but are no longer able to do so themselves but instead are the ones being honored by the living. The day is begun with the raising of Old Glory, then she is lowered to half-mast where she remains until noon, honoring those who have gave their lives in service of this wondrous nation.

What does it mean to be an American? To be an American can mean many different things, it could mean that you have American parents and that you were born in America. You could have American parents and be born in a different country and still be considered American. To me it means that you live in America, you could be from places like Turkey, Spain, Germany, Puerto Rico or anywhere and live in America and be considered an American. Being an American can mean many different things all depending on the different perspectives of different ethnic or religious groups. So what does being an American mean to me? Being an American to means that everyone can live a happy stress free life where they don’t have to worry about being discriminated against or feeling like they don’t have equal rights. To start with, being an American can range in definition depending on a person 's perspective of America. Personally, I would say being an American is when you can live a happy life where you don 't have to worry about being treated differently because of the color of your skin.

What is the definition of an American? Being American does not mean being a part of a specific race or religion. Although being born in the United States or taking the citizenship test and passing it does make you an American physically, but does it give you the American mentality? Regardless of the language and ethnic diversity that has thrived in America, it is the mutual principle of freedom, equality, and the aspiration of prosperity that makes a true American.     The people of the United States symbolizes a multitude of ethnic, cultural, and religious backgrounds.

To be an American. Many take this phrase too lightly, others, too strict. There are both formal and informal ways to consider yourself an American. Some think that to be an American means to have the privilege of attending a Yankees game on Sunday or being able to swing by and grab a big-mac every chance you get, having the privileges that we take so lightly while other countries strive for the resources and advantages that we don’t even think twice about until it suddenly no longer exists. Being an American means to be there when others are in need, whether they are a different skin color, talk differently, or even if they can’t communicate with you.

To me, being an American is having U.S. citizenship. I see “American” as an ethnicity, which is something you can’t really change. But American in spirit is something different, a person in my opinion can deem themselves as an ‘American at heart” by living the American way. I am a “host” and a guide; meaning I am constantly exposed to people from around the world. I am also Mexican-American so my opinion on “being an American” is more different than your typical American.
