The vice president and the first lady today, have given our nation a tremendous impact compared to the past. Presidents in the past had given their vice presidents little authority. Presiding officer of the Senate they also served as a ceremonial assistant to the president that was was it. The First lady also known as the president 's wife also didn’t have a huge impact to our nation and government in the past. The first ladies role was to carry only ceremonial duties. Although the first lady’s role did change over time, it did not evolve significantly. Today this is very different. The constitution has given the vice president the right to preside over the Senate. If their is a tie the vice president can vote and break the tie. If the president dies the vice president will take the presidency and this also happens if the president has a serious sickness or injury the vice president wil take over until the president returns. The First Lady is also very important today. They are the hostesses of the White House and make sure everything is working well and the White House is looking good for formal visitors. As president he was informed about the atomic bomb in the second word war which he hadn’t been told while he was a vice president. For this reason he created the National Security Council. We still have this council today so it had a huge impact on our country and our safety.
