Video games are everywhere: computers, smart phones, televisions, and even at schools. “U.S. gaming revenue is forecast to reach $23.5 billion in 2017” making it one of the largest industries in the world. The question is are video games harmful? The answer is yes. Video games are causing a number of different health problems that include aches and pains, obesity, and even seizures. Games are altering the behavior of teens, causing them to be more aggressive and perform poorly in school. Above all they are taking away from what could be a very successful and happy life and making it into a life of missing out on beautiful experiences. However, some people may look at video games as a positive way to deal with mental illness, chronic illnesses, and they can help with overall happiness. However, in spite of these beliefs, video games are not an activity that will always end with a positive outcome. Video games are taking over young adults lives and harming them in the process. Video games are causing gamers physical health to decrease. Kids that spend more than two hours a day watching tv or playing video games are shown to have lower levels of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential for healthy bones along with healthy and strong muscles, heart, lungs and brain. If someone isn’t getting enough vitamin D they can experience pain in their bones, weaker muscles and low blood levels have been linked to an increased risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
