According to the American Institute of Social Research, the Vietnamese people have 10 major characteristics. The fifth characteristic listed is Vietnamese people love knowledge and have quick understanding but hardly learn from the beginning to the end of things, so their knowledge is not systemic or fundamental. In addition, Vietnamese people do not study just for the sake of knowledge (when small, they study because of their families; growing up, they study for the sake of prestige or good jobs). The temptation of reputation and the prospect of enhancing social position are among the strongest incentives to the pursuit of knowledge. Education represents the indispensible cornerstones to the ladder of fame and to good job opportunities. It is the prime force of vertical mobility in Vietnamese society. It can be explained that Vietnamese culture and general education is dramatically affected by Confucianism in China, which dignify theory than practice and has obvious social class stratification through education. The community has a large population of Vietnamese restaurants, stores and markets. The heart of the Vietnamese community lies on the Sixth and Washington Ave, also known as the Little Saigon built by Vietnamese’s and spreads over Washington Ave. This Little Saigon was a place where Vietnamese unite and started during the Vietnam War.
In the novel Inside Out and Back again Ha and her family have to flee their home South Vietnam because of the Communist invasion, but escaping isn’t the only hard part, Ha gets bullied, doesn’t speak the language of her new country, and has no clue about the culture of this new place. Ha has a very similar experience to many other refugees throughout the world. Ha, her mother, and brothers have all gone through many things flipping their world upside down, and just like many other refugees there whole life has changed because of what happened to them. But despite all of this they have managed to come back. Just like Ha’s family Til Gurung and his people have had to go through the same universal refugee experience.

These key factors set up a child to become successful and soar high in life because they have learned the basis to society. Children from disadvantaged backgrounds are forced to abandon their education due to health problems related to malnutrition, or work to provide support for their family. There are two giants in the Axial Age of human history, Confucius and Plato, who are considered as the landmark in the oriental and western world. They are great philosophers, ideologists as well as excellent educators, whose thought have profound influence to the oriental and western world. Confucius’s ideas maintain authority for more than two thousand years, which have intimate connections with development of Chinese federal society. Even to this day, it still remains practical significance and reflects the glorious radiant. Plato’s doctrine is a source of Western political thought.
Confucians value self-cultivation considered as long-life learning that one person must pursue for his whole life, accordingly, people have to learn constantly, and the only way for them to achieve their understanding is learning (Thang, 2013). Absorbing this idea, Vietnam and Singapore’s education encourage pupils to be an eager and diligent learner, balance the ‘self’ with ‘others’ through active learning, self-reflection and self-evaluation. The distinction is that subjects in Vietnam’s school bias towards knowledge in the curriculum, and Vietnam’s education have a tendency to feature scores and achievements of individuals that make students under pressure of exam and studying (Education in Vietnam: Development history, challenges and solutions, 2005). Besides, academic achievements are highly appreciated than non-academic achievements, thus arts subjects are secondary subjects. Singapore’s education is more creative because subjects combined knowledge and skills through questions and interaction in class.
Education is vital to one’s life and well-being, however since education isn’t free so many kids around the world can’t take advantage of it simply because of their economic status. When people become educated, it allows them to develop different perspectives and would not only see an improvement in their life, but in society as a whole. There’s no doubt that education is the most important thing to enhance the lives of individuals. Without it, kids aren’t able to reach their full potential, causing citizens to experience major issues in life such as a low standard of living, ignorance, and among other things. Education should be free for everyone, regardless of their economic background, because every individual is important and should have the equal opportunity to better themselves.
