Throughout history, violence has played a major role in our society and has been consistent in every generation. Constantly, we are hearing about violence through the media and for some people, we are witnessing the violence firsthand. Violence can be defined as the intentional use of physical force or power, vulnerable or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a community. Violence can end up in or incorporates a high chance leading to injury, death, psychological trauma, and deprivation. There are many different reasons people commit violent acts, an example of this can be self defense or anger. The most eminent similarity that Alex and Villanelle share is the fact that both characters are serial killers and will go through with their violent acts no matter what obstacle is in front of them. Another similarity Alex and Villanelle posses is their harsh childhood. Although Alex didn’t grow up in an abusive household, his parents being unaware of his violence and wrongdoings shows that his parents were almost neglectful in a sense. Also, aside from his relationship with his parents and his homelife, Alex is only 15 years old in this novel. He has a harsh childhood largely because he is choosing to be in a gang and commit acts of violence on the streets. In, “Killing Eve: Codename Villanelle”, a lot of the novel is devoted to revealing Villanelle’s troubled background as Oxanna. She is depicted as a young Russian woman who is imprisoned and subjected to “unspeakable” conditions in prison, after she brutally attacks several men. Although both characters are serial killers, the difference between them is that Alex kills innocent individuals. As Alex kills and hurts these innocent people, he feels no remorse or guilt.
