Santeria is influenced by Spanish Catholicism (“What is the Differenece…”).
Another difference between Santeria and Vodou is a person’s “head spirit”. In Santeria, this is discussed publically and the spirit is identified to everyone. Horace Miner’s “Body Ritual among the Nacirema” has many rituals that seem bizarre but are a reflection of their beliefs and what they think is the proper way to address their imperfections be it the way they look, the condition of their health, or their beliefs in attaining luck or fortune. In my opinion, these rituals are, to some extent, similar to our own daily practices and rituals. Their daily rituals seem strange but these rituals and practices are somehow similar to our own daily rituals in terms of what they are trying to achieve. One similarity is how they believe that the human body is ugly so they use the powerful influences of ritual and ceremony. The more powerful members of the society have many shrines in their homes and

It is a combination of beliefs and practices from their homeland in Nigeria, of Roman Catholicism that was imposed on them from the Spanish colonists and of French spiritism from the work of Allan Kardec. In the last couple decades, Santeria has spread and gained popularity throughout South America and North America as an Afro-Cuban religion that many Cubans and African Americans abroad have embraced. Religions are immensely diverse in the types of rituals, myths, and overall beliefs their followers practice. There is bound to be ideas that overlap between these religions.
